Writing an essay correctly in APA style could be a daunting task. Luckily for students at Bethel, there are many materials that we have access to, therefore ensuring that we have the tools to help us create a successful essay. In my accelerated prep course we have been given an assignment to explain the four steps of writing an essay. We must first begin with a point or thesis. Then, support that point with evidence. Next, organize and connect the evidence. Lastly, we must write error-free sentences. We must also include what we have learned about each of those steps. This paper will explain the four steps of writing an essay, and in the process I will tell you what I learned about each step so far.
The Four Steps of Writing an Essay As I explained earlier, there are four steps in essay writing. The first being the essay must have a point that you are trying to get across. Sometimes deciding what you want to write about can be the hardest part of writing an essay. Once you have decided on the topic, then you must prove your point. The point must be presented in a way that the reader will automatically understand what you are trying to convey. I have learned that having the point of an essay understandable can mean the difference between a passing and failing grade. An organized essay should be clear and precise. First the writer must, pick a topic, decide on the point and gathering evidence to support that point. The writer must then organize and connect the evidence and put it in essay form. The essay must have a continuous organized flow. If I was writing an essay about my experience seeing an angel I could add a thought provoking question like “what do you think an angel looks like?” Then I would be able to answer that question based on my experience.
