I think that developmental psychologists should add the Emerging Adulthood stage to Erik Erikson’s Lifespan Theory. I think this change is necessary to the Lifespan Theory because Erikson stated that the adolescence stage during a major psychosocial crisis is composed of identity versus role confusion during ages 13-19 while the young adulthood stage is composed of intimacy versus isolation during a person’s 20’s. The adolescence stage is a period between childhood and adulthood during the ages of 13 – 19. A major psychosocial crisis of identity versus role confusion occurs in this stage and involves exploring one’s self.
