Analytical Autobiography “Our limitations are those we set up in our own minds.” These are the words my family always live by due to the difficult experiences we have encountered to reach to where we are now. Being raised in a very poor family in Toluca, Mexico, it made it extremely difficult to make a living. Various factors contribute to harsh living conditions especially with the ongoing corruption many Mexican cities dealing with, we were just one of many families struggling to put food in our plate every single day. These conditions always made our community to become hard workers because that was the only way to support our love ones and help create a bond with all the other families to help each other when needed. With the early struggles I had in life, the one thing I learned is that nothing comes easy in life because if so no one would be living in poverty. The way my parents both work to give my brother and me a better life style was important because I would see the hustle they would do for us but I also felt bad. I appreciate all the effort my parents did and there sacrifices but by doing so, I felt I never had the chance to spend as much time with my parents as I wish. Especially with my father, in which every night will come late tired from work and wake up early the next day and repeat only to give us a roof over our head. I always wished for my father to attend to one of my orchestra performance back when I played the violin from the third grade to eighth grade. I would see many of peers with their family after the show while my father was working and never attended to any of my performances. These events during my childhood made me realize that when I grow to be a father in the future, I would do anything possible to attend to my kid’s school performance because it feels bad after the show when most families are united and yours is not together. Other childhood memories that were influncicial throughout the course of my life was the involvement of sports. Playing both basketball and soccer has taught me many life lesson especially discipline. Many other skills were learned from playing sports such as respect and social skills. Being active in these sports made me have a better understanding on how I should respect and benefiting the strengths of others and how I can grow to a better individual. The best thing about these experience is that when I was with my teammates and coaches, I felt like it was a family because we would always look out for each other and the coaches would always want the best for us give us life advice that would come useful. Everything for a year had been leading up to this point and here I was in the middle of the happiest place on earth in tears because my friends had abandoned me in the middle of Disney on the senior trip.
In the summer of 1998 my family fled the newly created independent country of Croatia (Former-Yugoslavia) to the United States. My parents came here in hopes of finding a better life as the economy was still recovering from Croatia’s war of independence. We first settled in Amarillo, Texas for a few months. We traveled around the states for a year or so looking for other refugees. After some searching my parents decided to move to Connecticut as it offered the best incentives for refugees. Listening to stories about this time of my life has given me a chance to appreciate the help we received from various government programs that settled us, clothed us, fed us, and helped us become independent American citizens. Now I want to give back and the best way I know to do this is by teaching the future generations of Americans.
I have always grown up around the influence of hard work. My mother and father’s life together began off to a rough start. My mother got pregnant at the age of 20 with my brother. Her family was not very supportive of it; therefore, she was on her own. I received a voice mail today from Sean McKnight stating he has a meeting setup with Ken Barber and some other individuals on the executive board of Illinois Joining Forces (IJF). I felt it was my duty to inform the group about some important facts that Mr. McKnight is very good at hiding. I met Mr. McKnight during my time at NIU. I just served my time as the NIU Veterans Club president and decided it was time to let someone else take the helm. Matthew Galloway the current Veterans Club president introduced the club to Sean McKnight at a veterans club meeting. Sean came in and presented himself as a seasoned veteran’s advocate who has many connections throughout the state of Illinois and Washington D.C. He promoted his organization that he was starting Warriors Guarding Warriors as a revolutionary concept that has not been thought of as for yet throughout the veteran community. Finally, he offered his services to any veterans having trouble with VA benefits or the medical process. At the time we did not know that he was not officially certified to help veterans, and nor did he actually know the proper process or paper work needed to help our fellow veterans. On February 21, 2016, I, Deputy John Arnold, went to 11747 West 105th Street South to assist another deputy in reference to a fight in progress.
It all started when Ms. McCrystal began a lesson on how evolutionary changes impacted the lives of other organisms. Allie knew something interesting was going to happen, because Ms. McCrystal was the most engaging teacher on team 8-1. The very next day Ms. McCrystal had all of her Students do an assignment on the five fingers of evolution. Then she announced that the class was going on a class trip to the science museum.
“Tout de suite Entrez!” She says, looking at the alley entrance, watching the dead soldiers, and then pointing at him to go in.
Before junior year, I got up at 5:45 a.m. and took the train and bus to school. Getting my driver's license meant more freedom, more independence, and sleeping in later. For my parents, my license meant a free taxi company for my 3 younger sisters, but I didn’t know that my license would mean getting closer to my sister Ella.
Moving from a highly diverse community to a less diverse community has to be the weirdest yet interesting culture shock I ever had to deal with. As a young child, I did not know about the outside world. I thought everyone rides the bus or the metro, graffiti on the wall is normal and traffic wouldn’t matter as much since everything I needed was within walking distance sometimes. There were shocking things I learned once I moved to Nebraska.
After countless hours of uncomfortable naps and tasteless meals between flights, we finally arrived at the unfamiliar land of America. Leaving all our dear friends and families behind, I was told that we came here in hope of a better future, my future specifically. I was never really socially active and at the time, English was a whole new concept that I have yet to understand. The inability to communicate with other makes it even harder for me to express myself and it mold my personality to become more antisocial than I ever was. There’s always this uneasy feeling that linger when someone talk to me and I cannot give them a response and it’s even harder to say something because I was afraid of making a mistake and make a fool out of myself.
From childhood you need good solicitous parents. If you have good parents, it has good effects on you, but if you have bad parents that don’t care about you, it will have negative effects on you and your future. Of course, that’s not a rule, but in most cases that will be the chance. My parents raised me well and have always loved me, and I love them too. If your life has to be good, you always need some resistance from your parents, so it isn’t all sugar in your childhood. Resistance will surely be good for you. My parents always there to support me. Support is very important for your life no matter your 5 years old or 60 years old. They have been there to support and guide me, whether it is badminton, school or any other problems. So it’s very important to have parents, and most important, parents that supports and guides me.
“Why don’t you use your locker? You’re going to have back problems before you even graduate”. These are words that are repeated to me daily, almost like clockwork. I carry my twenty-pound backpack, full of papers upon papers from my AP classes. The middle pouch of my backpack houses my book in which I get lost to distract me from my unrelenting stress. The top pouch holds several erasers, foreshadowing the mistakes I will make - and extra lead, to combat and mend these mistakes. Thick, wordy textbooks full of knowledge that has yet to become engraved in my brain, dig the straps of my backpack into my shoulders. This feeling, ironically enough, gives me relief - my potential and future success reside in my folders and on the pages of my notebooks.
During my freshman year of college, I had met one of my best friends, who go by name Jill. (She lives in New Jersey and while I live in Pennsylvania) I found it to be strange that sometimes, it feels like we have grown up with one another but in reality we have only one another for four years and I couldn’t be more thankful. I can remember when we met at school as if it was yesterday.
I have a very fulfilling feeling about what I have been able to accomplish in my life so far. I want the absolute best for myself and those close to me. I often go above and beyond to help those around me succeed and be the best version of themselves that they can possibly be.
