Basketball players “wanna be like Mike”, but shoe companies “wanna be
like NIKE.” NIKE is the worlds #1 company and controls more than 40%
of the US athletic shoe market. The company designs and sells shoes
for just about every sport, including baseball, volleyball,
cheerleading, and wrestling. NIKE also sells Cole Haan dress and
casual shoes and a line of athletic wear and equipment, such as hockey
sticks, skates, and timepieces. In addition, it operates NIKETOWN shoe
and sportswear stores and is opening JORDAN in store outlets in
suburban markets. NIKE sells its product to about 19,000 US
accountants, in about 140 other countries, and online. Chairman, CEO,
and co-founder Phil Knight owns. Nike Co. is very interesting, as well
is a popular brand.
Nike, pronounced NI-KEY, is the winged goddess of victory according to
Greek mythology. She sat at the side of Zeus, the ruler of the
Olympian pantheon, in Olympia. A mystical presence, symbolizing
victorious encounters, NIKE presided over history’s earliest
battlefields. A Greek would say, “When we go to battle, and win, we
say it is NIKE.” Synonymous with honored conquest; NIKE is the
twentieth century footwear that lifts the world’s greatest athletes to
new levels of mastery and achievement. The NIKE “swoosh” embodies the
spirit of the winged goddess who inspired the most courageous and
chivalrous warriors at the dawn of civilization. Among artistic
representations of Nike are the sculpture by Paeonius (c. 424 BC) and
the “Nike of Samothrace.” Rhodians probably erected the latter,
discovered on Samothrace in 1863 and now in the Louvre Museum, Paris,
about 203 BC to commemorate a sea battle. Excavations have shown that
the sculpture was placed alighting on a flagship, which was set in the
ground in such a way that it appeared to float.

J. Crew, also known as J. Crew Group Inc., is a private label company known for its preppy fashions that are fashionable yet costly. Essentially, the company was owned by the Cinader family for most of its history. Mitchell Cinader and Saul Charles founded the company in 1947. It was originally known as Popular Merchandise Inc. doing business as the Popular Club Plan, in which Mitchell’s son Arthur was the overseer. In closing, the normal functioning of the brain and nervous system is vital for basic bodily functioning and processes. Injury, disease or abnormal structure of the brain will greatly affect one's behaviour, emotional regulation, mental processes and functioning. The brain will respond to any trauma, injury or abnormality to accommodate the dysfunction. During this response, the brain will physically change, the process called neuroplasticity, and attempt to "rewire" the brain to return to normal functioning. In the treatment of many cases as previously discussed, the aim was to reconnect neurons and the theory of neuroplasticity was the foundation behind it.
Brain recovery involves actions that follow brain injury or trauma. Injury to the brain may be caused by external forces such as blows to the head that may cause the brain to move inside the skull (Johnson, 2013) or tumours that exert pressure onto the brain or may results from genetic disorders (Cain, Wasserman, Minorsky, Jackson, & Urry, 2008). Examples of brain injuries include stroke, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease to name a few.

As the human body goes through different experiences, the brain grows, develops, and changes according to the environmental situations it has been exposed to. Some of these factors include drugs, stress, hormones, diets, and sensory stimuli. [1] Neuroplasticity can be defined as the ability of the nervous system to respond to natural and abnormal stimuli experienced by the human body. The nervous system then reorganizes the brain’s structure and changes some of its function to theoretically repair itself by forming new neurons. [2] Neuroplasticity can occur during and in response to many different situations that occur throughout life. Some examples of these situations are learning, diseases, and going through therapy after an injury.

Merriam Webster’s Online dictionary defines a subculture as: “an ethnic, regional, economic, or social group exhibiting characteristic patterns of behavior sufficient to distinguish it from others within an embracing culture or society” (Merriam-Webster). That said, this essay will take a look at a subculture unique to Japan, called: “Hikikomori.” Hikikomori have become a major issue in Japan. Practically interpreted as "social withdrawal”, hikikomori refers “to the state of anomie into which an increasing number of young Japanese seem to fall these days.” Thus, in order to understand the subculture of hikikomori, one should first learn what exactly hikikomori are, its effects on the individual involved within the subculture as well as the family and friends surrounding the hikikomori, and lastly how and when this subculture began.
