Poetry is a form of writing that is commonly used to express feelings. There are many famous poets, from modern and past times, that are famous for the expression of their feelings through poems. One of the most famous rappers of all time is Tupac Amaru Shakur. Tupac Shakur was not only a Rapper, but also an actor, and a poet. One of his most famous works is “When Ure Heart Turns Cold”. In this poem, he talks about his loss of emotion caused from his experiences. The word “Freeze” is significant because it describes his soul when having a cold heart. The word “Disease” is important in these lines because it is explaining what happens when his heart turns cold. Tupac not only uses rhyming in these lines; he also uses a simile. The poet uses the simile “Spreads throughout your spirit like a ruthless feeling disease” to explain what he feels happens to his body when having a cold heart. The song was dedicated to his mother, Afeni Shakur. In the song, He is thanking his mother for working so hard while taking care of two poorly behaved kids (him and (Tupac Shakur)his sister). He talks about the reason he hung out with “thugs” in his area, which was because they showed him a form of love he never got from his father. He continuously thanks his mother and tells her how much she is appreciated for stepping up as a mother and father when his father was not present. She worked countless hours to put food on the table. Although his mother was a substance abuser, she still found a way to raise her kids.
