Friends help you through thick and thin and will always be there for you. Everyone has friends. Whether your friends with a million people or just one person, Friends have made an impact in your life today. In the short story The Wrong Lunch Line by Nicholasa Mohr best friends Yvette and Mildred are faced with difficult challenges based on their religions. Mildred is Jewish and Yvette is not Jewish. As a result, They are separated at lunch because of their different religions. Mildred helped Yvette try to fit in with the jewish children but, Yvette soon realizes that being different is okay and that's what makes her friendship with Mildred so special. Best friends have got your back and always look out for you. Mildred and Yvette learn lots of lessons at the end of the story but they also learned to look at the bright side of a situation and laugh a little. Throughout the story, the theme of friendship is expressed in many different ways. A characteristic of being a good friend is looking out for the other person. Mildred and Yvette are best friends and both of them have different religions. Even though they are separated at lunch, they still look out for each other to make sure they're okay. Yvette is very poor and comes from a big family. She appreciates the little things in life and she does not let things get the best of her. “Yvette looked forward to the Hershey’s chocolate bar that Mr.Fox, Mildred’s father would give her.” Mildred’s family looked out for Yvette and helped her whenever she needed. The chocolate bar is a symbol because something so simple put a smile on Yvette’s face and always tried to look at the best of the situation. These two best friends also
