Living in Los Angeles there are social issues such as race, gender, and geography that are still intact from the past. The main one of the social issues that we are still suffering from and living with is the representations of gender in Los Angeles. Gender representations in The Revolt of the Cockroach People by Oscar Zeta Acosta which he discusses about women figure highly but hardly acknowledge them in the midst of a “semi-autobiographical account” of the Chicano Power movement. According to Acosta, women are just the concubines, mourners, and supporters to their men. Another understanding was that those men were presented as bold and positive because they can prance around and the ladies will coming running towards them. The possible solutions to fix this social issue are crediting and appreciating women more, stop stereotyping them as sex objects, let them speak up against the political systems within the society, and give them more freedom. In conclusion, The Revolt of the Cockroach People by Oscar Zeta Acosta, there were a few tough females characters even they was not feminist heroes. They were described based on their looks and not often by their actions. They are not being appreciated enough for their hard work and contributions to anything that the society has and had given to everyone especially to the men.
