The movie On the Job featured the different angles and degrees of crime and corruption in the Philippines. What is most striking about the film is that it is based on real events. In this aspect the movie served as an eyeopener to those who doesn’t know the clandestine transactions and processes in the different social system of our country specifically, the government. On the Job portrayed the usage of prisoners from correction facilities as hired gunmen or for assassination purposes. In exchange, the prisoners were granted with limited time to visit their families and they were given monetary incentives. In the movie, it is almost a election season and the corrupt personalities like General Pacheco and Congressman Manrique used guns in order to pacify people including his own son-in-law, to protect his identity and reputation. The hired gunmen, which are prisoners, are the goons that moves and does the dirty work ordered by the influential people in the government. Gold that pertains to wealth, hasten all operations. As stated by the Congressman Pacheco, “Hindi ka pwedeng hindi magbibigay kung gusto mong makuha ang gusto mo.” This means that corrupt politicians often used monetary compensation in order to amass greater wealth or power. As for the small scale corruption, there was a part wherein SPO1 Acosta ignore the vendor as he eat the food. He wanted it to be free. It is ironic for an officer who seeks for answers in his investigation in the illegal business in the government is also corrupt in his small actions. Corruption in the film is not only limited to government. The film also showed corruption in simple people. Mario was corrupted by the killings he had committed.
