Ever been to a drunk driving trial? On Wednesday the 5th of October, I would experience a very touching event. This event was called the Mock Crash Trial put on by the sorority Pi Beta Phi. They held this in the auditorium of the Student Union. The event was attended by many students involved in a variety of greek organizations as well as any other student that attends The University Of Toledo. This event overall was very quality. They loaded the auditorium with people as a judge sat on the top of the stage. They escorted in a :criminal” in. Later we would learn he was a drunk driver. The point they were getting across is the lasting and immediate impact and consequences if you drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. They projected this very well by making the teens parents who was killed prosecute the drunk driver, Scott. They went over the pain and agony that losing their daughter has caused them. Then the judge went over the time in jail Scott would have to serve, the money he would have to pay, and how he would have to cover the costs of the funeral and other events for the family. They had a narrator read all about Scott, the teenager who is being charged with DUI. The narrator would explain how bright Scott’s future was. What he would go on to accomplish and how he was a ontrack senior in college. Now that is all gone. His future was shattered because of the choice he made to drink and drive. His job he had lined up, gone now because of the years he would spend in prison. His plan to have a family? Now shattered because how would he care for a family until he is released from prison. Each individual fact they gave about how the accident ruined Scott’s future touched the audience. Who would want to go through that all because of one dumb decision to drink and drive.
