The first criterion is that the stadium must be controlled or owned by the baseball team. The stadium is a crucial aspect because most of the team’s revenue is generated in relation to the stadium. This stadium revenue comprises of ticket sales, parking, merchandise and concessions. Thus, without a stadium, the team will not be able to generate a stable source of revenue. The second criterion is that local ownership must have strong roots within the community. Without ties to the community, fan attendance could decrease. This is because fans could eventually perceive that the owner(s)’s only goal for the MLB franchise was to be profitable. The third criterion is the city must have long-term political support in the community. It is vital to have political support in order to gain financial support throughout the team’s years of existence, especially in tax payer monies. Particularly, this is significant when the team experiences issues or fights that involve the stadium and the land around the stadium. If there is a lack of political support, the expansion teams will not be able to obtain enough for money for stadium renovations, repairs, or to build new stadiums for the same team within the same city. Rosen portrays our society as completely exposed, giving up all privacy to join, and fit in with the “naked crowd”. Rosen claims that we willing give up all power of privacy in order to fit in with society and be accepted as someone that can be trusted through exposure. He claims that image is the key to establishing trust, not through a relationship or conversation. His thesis presents his views on the subject, “has led us to value exposure over privacy? Why, in short, are we so eager to become members of the Naked Crowd, in which we have the illusion of belonging only when we are exposed?”(Rosen) he states that we value exposure over privacy, and will give away privacy to fit in.

Being a fan also comes with the responsibility of changing one’s lifestyle in order to accommodate time and energy into the fandom. All day yesterday on my social media feed there was talk of Trev Rich’s concert and how people are “jocking” him. I found all this talk intriguing because very few people voiced their opinion on this matter until the day of his concert. My blood boiled as I read the ignorant, backhanded comments plastered all on Facebook from “fans”. I soon felt the need to express my feelings and explain the difference between being a fan and “jocking”, in a live Facebook video. I did what needed to be done and corrected a lot of the uneducated “fans” that were basically haters. But what is more important than the mechanics of the painting style, or the ideological perspective it is intended to garner, there is a connection between the painting and the viewer. This connection is lasting, and deeply personal. In the concept musical of Sunday in the Park with George, Stephen Sondheim uses this quite literally. He tells a story about a man named George Seurat. George is a nineteenth century painter, obsessed with his work. And in Act II, he is his great-grandson, also named George, and also an artist. However, these similarities are not what necessarily connect the two. Instead, it is their relationship with the same woman, Dot. She is the glue that eventually unites the two Georges through time. It is this connection which brings together the emotions and hope from the man of one generation, to the man of another. Like a spectator laying eyes on a beautiful painting for the first time, Dot holds the connection between the old and the new, the unrealized and the realized, and between the real and the imagined. These interlocking pathways between the characters are expressed best in the two songs “We Do Not Belong Together”, sung in Act I, and “Move On”, sung in Act II. Together, these songs, as well as others, explore Sondheim’s use of connection, which ties the relationship of people to art, but more importantly, to each other.

1. My first impression of the story was the setting reminds me of a fall day in Michigan. It was dark and cool so it reminds me of my childhood in the mornings getting ready for school. At first I thought it was something like a family trip for the guys before the characters where describe. The thought of a young boy on a trip into manhood with his father and Uncle. As the story goes along my impression changes over time to its a story about life circle and the development of a young man 's understanding about life at the hands of his father.

Now if Liverpool started to sell all their best players just so that the owner could make some money the fans would slowly stop going to the games.
