At the same time, he is rapping about his success. The video, which is directed by Dr. Dre himself and Philip G. Atwell, is also showing the impressive collection of awards for gold and platinum albums1. The clip starts with Dr. Dre walking on the street, he is rapping while behind him there is a small local shop selling newspapers and cold drinks. Later from one of such periodicals the singing head of Eminem will appear and the black man, who is reading this newspaper, seems to be disgusted. The reason might be the color of the skin of young MC – Eminem was very often criticized, especially at the beginning of his career, for being a cultural pirate meddling with Black culture to which he did not belong2. However, from the start, he is very …show more content…
Ride wit Me is primarily about partying but still – the words used are rather polite. The video starts with Murphy Lee, Kyjuan, and Slo Down, who are members of St. Lunatics, entering the decaying wooden bar on the side of the hideaway7, They call Nelly, who is chilling in a hammock strung between two cactuses, and then the plan of bringing the whole party to his fellows begins. Ali, another rapper from St. Lunatics, loads girls into the huge track8. Girls are wearing short tight tops exposing their perfectly flat bellies and very tiny shorts. Some of them have countryside clothes like checkered pattern shirts or cowboy hats (even Nelly himself is wearing this one). They look definitely sexy and they dance using their hips most of the time. Many people in the video wear also peaked caps. On the other hand, men wear extremely loose clothes – again the trousers which are way too big for them, T – shirts or jackets – everything oversized. They also have much shiny and golden jewelry – rings, golden chains again are on top, expensive watches. It is the image similar to hype lifestyle promoted by gangsta rap but somehow Nelly and his friends are definitely not the ones who someone could call gangsters. However, the extravagant image is still there. In the video Nelly, after the call, drives the 978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, license plate LUNATIC, leopard-print everything else9. The trucks follow, along with the police pursuit, which is being broadcasted on local news. Eventually, the police hit the outhouse trying to avoid the cow passing the street and Nelly and friends get to the bar. The party starts, everyone has great fun, countryside denim jerseys mix with Hip Hop style – even country people join the block party in the middle of nowhere. Nelly's Ride wit Me video could be as well the full – length comedy with the road movie as the main topic. The Hip Hop culture shown here is definitely not serious and full of social problems. It is

Posters were used during World War II by the U.S. government to get a significant message across to their citizens. To analyze a poster it is important to think about the choice of color, placement of words and images, shapes, and emotional appeal ( Lunsford and Ruszkiewicz 91). All of these factor into the message the author is trying to explain to its viewers visually. In the poster “When You Ride Alone,” the message the author was trying to get across to Americans was the importance of carpooling. This poster successfully conveys the message through the words, color scheme and representation of objects.
Eminem a Detroit kid rapping in just a whole in the wall place with a ambition to make it in a rap career when everyone in his family counting on him, but nobody believing in him. He was one of the only white rappers in a black community growing up and trying to make it. “What comes around goes around” is a quote from eminem when people would try to bring him down and not believe in him anymore. eminem has changed the era of white rappers before him there were no good white rappers and he is still very successful today as a rapper. eminem uses his daughter as motivation a lot and raps about her in most if not every one of his songs. Growing up for biggie wasn't much different, he had gang members trying to fight him everyday because of the life that he chosen. It was...
Everybody Rides the Carousel tells a story of a person going through all eight of Erikson’s stages of psychosocial development. The beginning explains the ride of carousel is continuous and builds on one another. The ride of life consists of eight stages/rides.
If you go to a hip hop concert nowadays you will almost always see a mixture of races. Groups such as A Tribe Called Quest, and The Roots welcome this ethnic mixing in their music. On the contrary, most “gangster rappers” do not promote this mixture. Th
I picked The Longest Ride as my movie to show examples of Luke Collins and Sophia Danko in relationship stages because I recently watched the movie and remembered it having a good story, building up a relationship, but also having problems and breaking up. This movie does an excellent job showing the first four stages: initiating, experimenting, intensifying, and integration. On the other hand the last four stage: differentiating, circumscribing, stagnating, and terminating, was a little more challenging, in account of them experiencing a break up and then eventually getting back together quickly.
Rap is about giving voice to a black community otherwise underrepresented, if not silent, in the mass media. It has always been and remains … directly connected to the streets from which it came. (144)
Many white rappers have had a difficult time making it in the black industry of rap. Eminem, the most recent white rapper to hit the mainstream has had his own share of difficulties in this industry and in his life as well. The poem written my Marshall Mathers, now known as Eminem, entitled "Life," displays Eminem's views on his life, and just life in general. Eminem has continued on the legacy of the contact zone between the white men in the black man's industry, this being rap.

Hip-Hop is a vast and popular culture, one part of Hip-Hop culture is the popular genre of music with lyrics spoken by old school artists such as Tupac, Notorious B.I.G, N.W.A, Grandmaster Flash and modern artists including Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Logic and more. Lyrics written and produced depict the hardships and reality for the artists. Contrary, lyrics also showed violence and stereotypes, and portrayed a certain image for listeners. Looking deeper into the genre, evidence shows that hypermasculinity is embedded into lyrics, videos and icons of Hip-Hop. The image of Money, Masculine Fragility and Appearance are prime examples that support the connection to hip-hop and the negative male image it imposes.
Hip-Hop/Rap is one of the biggest growing genres of today. From its early stages in the 1970’s to today’s pop culture, it has grown quite a lot. Unfortunately, it has developed a terrible reputation of drugs, violence, abuse, and gangs. When people associate Hip-Hop with things it is usually a negative image that comes to the person’s mind. Which is sad, Hip-Hop/Rap has a great artistic quality to them that gets so easily overlooked. There is true poetry and emotion behind these lyrics and beats, but not everyone is willing to sit down and listen to it. They quickly judge this music genre and the immediately dislike it without giving it a second thought. Rappers pour their emotions and their souls into their songs and it really speaks to people who would stop and listen to them. Hip-Hop/Rap has evolved over time. From the early stages of Kool Herc, Afrika Bambaataa, and others to today’s rap stars like Eminem and Kendrick Lamar. Each decades style is different but each style is still good. What really made Rap huge was the Sugarhill Gang’s own song called “Rapper’s Delight” the entire song is around 15 minutes long with just three emcee’s rapping, Wonder Mike, Big Bank Hank, and Master G. An emcee is another word for a rapper. Most emcees are the head of whatever event is being taken place, kind of like people that do skits in a talent show to introduce the next act. Hip-Hop/Rap today is filled with emcees and rappers. Today we find a more complex and more diverse style than what we would find back in the 70’s. There are different styles to different rappers. Each one unique in its own way and it makes that rapper stand out compared to everybody else. Also, another thing today that is different from the past is the flow of a rapp...
After their deaths, Wallace and Shakur’s music can be found in many different cinematic works (examples). With the connecting over a common enemy, hip-hop has become an accepted idea that both whites and blacks enjoy today. In fact, shortly after Wallace’s death, a fresh face came into the game—Marshall “Eminem” Mathers. He went on to become one of the most significant and influential rappers of all time. Mathers is white, and would not have been able to become a part of the hip-hop scene without the conflict between the east coast and the west coast and everyone coming together because of it.
Eminem came from poverties that many would not succeed from. Many doubted Eminem for becoming a rapper because of his color, lack of lyrical skills, and lifestyle. It even accumulated when he dropped out of high school and pursued his rapping career. He never believed of failure which motivated him to engineer his own long rhyming skills. He used his own adversities to inspire his songs which many consider masterpieces. His daughter Hailey made a great contribution towards his career as he wanted to flourish in her eyes and give all he had never had. Eminem has changed the interface of rap music and has generated a new era of rap which he will be considered as the ‘Greatest Rapper of All Time’.
He embarks on the road of trials and difficulties when he’s in Sweden. He is again faced with the issue of career vs. family, seeing Hailie as the platonic ideal Archetype he goes through the difficulties of abandoning his children and he hurt his wife shown by Hailie saying “You lied to me dad and now you made mommy sad… But baby wait”. It shows Eminem gaining inspiration from Hailie because he now fully realises the consequences of his actions. Furthermore, she talks about her mother who is not present throughout the video showing the lack of mother archetype making Eminem’s quest to become a better father more important. Additionally, within her monologue she references Slim Shady again when she says, “they keep screaming your name, and it’s the one you can’t go to sleep. Just take another pill yeah bet you, you will, you rap about it, yeah word keep keep it real” Showing now he has truly hit rock bottom as he has fully become Slim shown by Hailie saying “Yeah word keep keep it real” as Slim has become his reality. The show ends and he goes backstage where he sees in the mirror, Hailie and Kim dressed in all white, this is representative of the blessing archetype shown by their white clothes and importance in his life. Here Eminem realises that he needs to be there for his kids. Understanding he has hit rock bottom he realises his only way to overcome his
Eminem, as well as many other rappers, frequently incorporate poetry into their music in order to create a unique form of rap. Not only do Eminem and these other rappers aim to entertain their fans, but their unique style of blending rap music and poetry “provides a significant form of education for adolescents, one that extends beyond the classroom and into their peer group circles”(Powell 245). These artists combine these two styles in order to send a positive message to youth experiencing poverty-stricken lifestyle in certain areas in America. The “rap lyrics concentrate primarily on the contemporary African American experience” (Powell 245). In this particular song, Eminem aims to empower and encourage individuals to take a chance on their dreams and essentially “lose themselves” in the moment. The rapper aims to inspire his audience with lines “you only get one shot do not miss your chance to blow. This opportunity comes once in a lifetime yo…” (Eminem 27-28). He motivates his audience to take chances in life because they may never come again. If one does not take a cha...
