To start, Mookie did the right thing because property can’t and will not ever equate to human life. Yes what Mookie did was illegal, however Radiohead Raheem’s life is vanished and can never appear again. Sal’s pizzeria is dismantled, but it can be built again with insurance money. Sal only cares about his pizzeria, not the death of Raheem because the first thing Sal says pertains to the broken window, Mookie is the one who brings up Raheem’s death. When Mookie moves to get his money from Sal, Sal says, “ Your money couldn’t begin to pay for the window you broke.” Then Mookie says, “Motherf*cker, Radiohead Raheem is died,”(2:17:49). Police brutality. Along with Mookie stands against police brutality Mookie also did the right thing because of Sal’s racism towards Mookie and his customers. Furthermore, Mookie did the right thing because Sal’s racism towards his customers. He is racist towards everyone except Jane, Mookie’s sister who Sal is interested in. The only reason why Sal is in the ghetto because he makes a lot of money in that area. Sal only tolerates his customers because he knows if he does something wrong, then he could lose all of his customers. One situation where Sal is racist towards his customer is when Buggin Out asks Sal why he doesn’t have any brothers on the wall, then Sal tells him if he wants brothers on the wall then he can get his own place.Buggin Out asks, “ Yo Mookie, why are there no brothers on the wall?” Mookie says, “I don’t know, ask Sal.” Then Sal says, “You want brothers on the wall get your own place. Do what you want to do...but this is my pizzeria. American Italians on my wall only.” Buggin Out retaliates and says, “Well you own this and rarely do I ever see American Italians eating in here. In this scene the Native children remain benevolent, not speaking or physically responding to being physically humiliated in public and the altercations persists. Only when Billy Jack comes in and decelerates the situation and unleashed his anger on the White townspeople and Bernard does the situation end. The scene shows the White customers idly standing by as the Native children are denied service and humiliated, silently condoning the Bernard’s racism. The owner of the shop still believes he should be able to deny service to anyone despite the law saying otherwise. The Native children disrupt the previous way of life where White people didn’t have to cater to people of color, where people of color were not seen or heard in white-only spaces. White attitudes towards people of color did not change with federal legislations starting six years before 1971.
