In this short “Louisa please come home” By Shirley Jackson is about a girl named Louisa cocky because she only thinks about herself and no one else. My first piece of evidence is the day she ran away. When she ran away she bought a new hat for herself. This seems like that she was happy on the she left. Another piece of evidence I had was when Louisa Lied to Mrs peacock about herself, and who she really was and where she came from . She doesn't care about other people like her family. She left on her sister's wedding because she wanted them to focus on her. She didn't care about her sister or what could happen on the day of her sister's wedding. This is why Louisa is very cocky she doesn't like anyone in her family and only thinks about herself.
In Stevie Cameron’s essay “Our Daughters, Ourselves,” she proclaims “ We tell our bright, shining girls that they can be anything: firefighters, doctors, policewoman, lawyers, scientists, soldiers, athletes, artists. Terry McMillian’s book How Stella Got Her Groove Back contains two main characters. Winston Shakespare is one of them. Winston is a twenty year old Jamaican man, six foot four, sexy, with maple syrup color skin. He has broad shoulders, a hairy chest, and wears an earring in his left ear. Although his voice is husky with a Jamaican accent, it is also soft. In the book Winston meets a woman named Stella who is in Jamaica for long need vacation alone. From the first time he lays eyes on Stella he in falls in love. Even though, Stella is twice his age, it doesn’t stop him from pursuing her. In his pursuit for this older lady he has to conquer all her fears and doubts about their age
Victoria Marks’ most recent contemporary dance pieces all were fascinating, but the two that drew me in the most were “Men” and “Mothers And Daughters”. Both of these pieces made in the spring of 2014, focus on the idea of celebrating the life you have been given, leaving your mark on the world, and getting the most out of every opportunity you have to be with someone you care about. Victoria Marks is a dance professor at UCLA, who also choreographs dances for the stage, and films. “Marks’ recent work has considered the politics of citizenship, as well as the representation of both virtuosity and disability. These themes are part of her ongoing commitment to locating dance-making within the sphere of political meaning.” Marks in both films “Men” and “Mothers And Daughters” believes that , "Your Dancing ability does not matter because we are all differently-abled", which is why she used both trained and untrained actors to create these two pieces of art.
In Gloria Watkins’s essay “Keeping Close to Home.” Watkins claims that she connects to her family through communications and being open and honest with them. From her family, Watkins learns that she should respect and value the skills and talents that other people might have, not just focus on those that she likes. Watkins’s family has influenced her perspective on life by telling her to remember her own identity, and never forget about her past and history. There are some that thinks we do not carry much of our own family, but I think we do carry a lot of our own family with us whether is good or bad. We would carry traits such as admiration of others, daily habits, and being respectful to others.
There are many religions in the world and each religion has different beliefs. Most religions have a higher power (e.g. a God, a spirit, etc.). Those religions that believe in a higher power also try to communicate with them and often feel as if they get possessed by that spirit or God when they successfully communicate with them. I will be looking at two readings that share the different types of experiences people have when they communicate with their spirits.
Lauren Rivera brings up many different topics about who really get the high level entry jobs. Americans are being taught to believe in the notion that upward mobility is possible if you just work hard for it. However, Rivera states otherwise; high level jobs are still given to those from prosperous background. It is known that individuals who come from a very high economic background do have a slight advantage. However, there is more than just being financially well.
The Long Way Home, written by David Laskin, takes place throughout the early 1900’s in America. The book studies the journey of 12 ambitious immigrants trying to achieve the American Dream. The author, David Laskin, is an experienced author history, and literary biography. In fact, his books, Partisans, The Family, and The Children’s Blizzard, fall under his degrees in history and literature. In this monograph, The Long Way Home, he focuses on the risk of each struggle and opportunity an individual is faced with. David Laskin, presents these twelve immigrants in their journey, to obtain american citizenship through assimilation to American culture and, service in the great war.

Sarah Josepha Hale (1788-1879) was America’s first woman editor and the author of many novels and poems, publishing nearly fifty volumes of work in her lifetime. President Abraham Lincoln declared Thanksgiving a national holiday in 1864 after Hale had spent 40 years campaigning for a national day of thanks. An early activist for women’s education and property rights and editor of the 19th century’s most successful woman’s magazine (Godey’s) – these are only a few of the many accomplishments of the extraordinary woman who is now unknown to most Americans.

The novel, “Shiloh” by Shelby Foote is a fictional recreation of the bloody battle. The story begins with the soldiers of the Confederate Army heading towards Pittsburg Landing. The men are marching in terrible conditions. It is pouring down rain and they are dragging their tired legs through the mud. The troops come to a halt so the commanders can talk to General Johnston. General Johnston says the only way they might have a chance is if they plan a surprise attack. As the sergeants hand the men their guns, they are told to check the powder in case it got wet in the rain. A group of soldiers test their guns out on a deer running close by. At the same time the shots were fired, the sun came out and the soldiers started to scream and cheer. These noises combined were more than enough to alert the Union soldiers of the Confederates advance. Palmer remembers what his life was like before going to war. He attended the Louisiana State Military Academy when the Confederacy seceded from the Union. One of his professors predicted the south did not have a chance of winning the war. That night Palmer dreams of holding Sherman at gunpoint making him admit that he was wrong. Prior to the battle, the commanders create a battle plan. Palmer is assigned a part in this process. When the plan fails, Palmer learns that planning a battle is more difficult than it seems because the commanders on the ground face challenges that do not exist on paper.
Is Gender the same thing as Sex? This topic is complicated because many people confuse these two as the same thing but they are very two different things. There are several Cultural Myths about Gender and Sex. Gary Colombo, who wrote: “Thinking Critically, Challenging Cultural Myths” who explains that a cultural myth is a shared set of customs, values, ideas, and beliefs, as well as a common language. In “Sisterhood is Complicated” by Ruth Padawer who is a contributing writer at The New York Times Magazine, focusing on gender and social issues in “Sisterhood is Complicated” she shows many of the Stereotypes about Gender and Sex and how they are unmistakably just cultural myths. It also has how there are positives being trans at an all women
‘’The woman thing’’ by Audre Lorde reflects more on her life as a woman, this poem relates to the writers work and also has the theme of feminism attached it. The writers role in this poem is to help the women in discovering their womanhood just as the title say’s ‘’the woman thing.’’ The poem is free verse and doesn’t have a rhyme to it and has twenty-five lines.

Edgar Allan Poe’s 1849 poem, “Annabel Lee”, explores the common themes of romance and death found in many of Poe’s works. The poem tells the story of a beautiful young maiden named Annabel Lee who resides by the sea. The maiden and the narrator of the poem are deeply in love, however the maiden falls ill and dies, leaving the narrator without his beloved Annabel Lee. Contrary to what many might expect from a poem by Poe and yet still depressing, the poem ends with the narrator accepting Annabel’s death and remains confident that they will forever be together despite her parting.
