Throughout the novel Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J.K Rowling, Harry Potter has a miserable childhood. At the beginning of the book, Harry is an orphan boy who born and grows up in a relative family call the Dursley. The Dursley’s family always being mean to him because Harry is different than anyone else, he is a wizard. He receives all the negligence and child abuse from them. A little boy who lives in a difficult condition can easily give up himself and may treat others with the same experienced that he learned. However, Harry wants to live his life different than the Dursley’s family so he stands up not only for himself but for others. For example, he stands up for Neville against Malfoy bullying while in the flying lesson or violation of the rules in wizard world. Harry cares about people, even though his childhood is neglect, he does not want to stand there and ignore Malfoy bullying Neville. Moreover, Hermione admonishes him that: “What McGonagall and Snape have said? You’ll be expelled!” (291) even though he will be expelled from school, he still sacrifices himself for Neville. His mind always tells him to do contrarily from what the Dursleys did to him. Being expulsion from school is a big loss with Harry but he says: “If I get caught before I can get to the Stone, well, I’ll have to go back to the Dursleys and wait for Voldemort to find me there” (291). He wants to let everyone know that he cares for others than he cares for himself. Therefore, Harry becomes a hero as he learned from the Dursleys has treated him. Altogether, Harry Potter in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J.K Rowling describes that an orphan boy has an unhappy childhood. The only relative that he has is the Dursleys, but they do not consider him as a part of the family, treat him so poorly. However, he uses his neglect childhood for a good lesson to helps others people. He does not want to see others get bully and insults.
