Coaching style is only one of the factors that set Coach K apart from Coach Williams. In addition, Coach K’s offense and defense coaching style is higher ranked. Duke Basketball is known year after year for its outstanding defense. Coach K says, “A winning basketball team makes the opponent react to them, whether they are on offense or defense. Our philosophy is to attack on defense. Don’t be afraid of making a mental or physical mistake on defense. The only mistake you can make it not playing hard” (Coaching Basketball). At the end of the day all defense really comes down to is effort. Which team is going to “go the extra mile” and go after the loose balls, rebounds, and consistently encourage their teammates. The Blue Devils always have those …show more content…
Our defensive involves all five players to play together: talking on defense, seeing the ball, and moving as the ball moves” (Coaching Basketball). After playing great defense, they can reward themselves on offense. Coach K tends to run a motion offense. Most of the time Duke’s motion offense has three guards on the perimeter, at the three-point line, and two post in the key. Motion is all about spacing and cutting. “The combination of the spacing and cutting through the middle continually opens up the driving lanes” (Kelbick). Opening up the driving lanes allows for a player to drive into the basket and kick the ball back out if necessary, creating multiple scoring opportunities. Duke is extremely successful with this offense. For instance, the 2017-2018 basketball season they are averaging ninety-two points each game (Kelbick). When Coach K’s defense and offense come together, it is outstanding to …show more content…
Coach K involves himself more with his players and cares more for the team than constantly winning, therefore; this has led him to all of his wins. Coach Williams is more concerned about winning, which will only allow one to go so far. Additionally, Coach K’s offense and defense are both stable unlike Coach Williams. Finally, Coach K’s statistics and achievements are unbelievable, although; Coach Williams’ statistics are not far behind, but his achievements are. Coach K is seventy years old and his time creating a legacy at Duke, sadly, is slowly coming to an end. Duke will forever be touched by Coach K, but will be different once he has retired/passed on. Personally, I was immensely interested in Coach Mike Krzyzewski at a young age and he has been a strong influence in my life. The lessons he teach not only pertain to basketball, but also to everyday life and they have taught me a tremendous
...de four trips to the Final Four and won three National Championships. The only other active coach with three National Championships is his former Army assistant, Mike Krzyzewski of Duke, who may end up surpassing Knight's win total for a new record. While Knight has not yet matched this success at Texas Tech, he is already making a case for himself as the school's best coach ever.
Bobby Knight’s college basketball career goes back over 40 years. In 1960 as a player for Ohio State University, Knight helped the Buckeyes capture the national championship. This feat will later make Knight one of only two men to play on and coach a national championship team in college basketball, the other being Dean Smith. Knight’s Ohio State Buckeye teams went on to win two more Big Ten championships in the next two years. Knight’s fellow teammates can remember him as being a tenacious defender on the court who would stop at nothing to win a game. His competitive nature allowed him to continue his basketball career after his playing years were over.
One reason why Will should never be to over confident or cocky is because when Kevin, Kevin is Will’s loyal follower, didn’t think he was going to win Will did. For example when kevin said “ Mike is really strong” but Will responded “I’m really strong.” So at that point he thinks he is way stronger. another example is when Kevin said
At this point in his life things started to change for the better for Duke,
While reviewing the case, the courts determined that the phrase “march madness” is a protected trademark and not just a common name.
Bobby’s coaching career began in 1954 as an assistant coach at Howard College. After working as an assistant coach at Howard for two years he was offered a head coaching position at South Georgia Junior College. Bobby stayed with South Georgia for two years pulling double duty as head coach of the football team and athletic director. Bobby coached at South Georgia for four years (1955-1958) winning three junior college state titles in that time. Bobby earned the first of many awards that he’d receive in his career while coaching at South Georgia, in 1955 and again in 1957 he was named the state’s Junior College Coach of the Year.

Russell was unique in the sense that he was one of the few athletes to coach and play for the same team at the same time. And more than that, he did it successfully. For the last three years as a Bos...
The Rebirth of a Game Basketball in my home state goes way back, straight to the beginning. The University of Kansas (KU) hired James Naismith, the inventor of the game, as its first basketball coach in 1898. The fledgling sport has caught on, and has gained force ever since. KU was also the scene of the emergence of Wilt Chamberlain, who dominated the game like none other. At the same time that “Wilt the Stilt” was breaking out, Kansas State University (KSU) had a basketball coach by the name of Tex Winter.
As a college basketball player, I learned that being an effective leader did not mean that I had to be a constant bundle of energy. Rather, I realized over time it is more important to understand your teammates and what makes them tick, and to translate that knowledge into separate leadership styles to match each individual. This is crucial when working with an extremely diverse group of attitudes, personalities, and mindsets. I believe people would describe my style as steady, positive, and upbeat – opposite of my head coach in many ways. Countless times I would pull a teammate aside who had been berated and explain in a constructive
Coaches must have special players for this offensive strategy. Luckily Phil Jackson had the greatest of all time Michael Jordan in Bulls and Kobe Bryant in Lakers. Many people will say:“It is easy to win eleven rings when you have individuals like Jordan and Bryant.“ But if you ask me, I think coach Jackson and his strategy made champions of Michael and Kobe. They were just executors for coaches tactics. For example Oklahoma City Thunders have the biggest potential to win a lot of championships. With Russel Westbrook and Kevin Durant only sky is the limit, but they do not have Phil Jackson on the

After zone defense was banned there was a 54 year period of nothing but old fashioned man defense. I can remember watching clips of Magic Johnson, Pistol Pete, and Michael Jordan using their athleticism to maneuver their way around defender and penetrate into the lane. There is footage of Magic Johnson driving through the lane while wrapping the ball around his body, faking a pass to a teammate and executing a flawless finger-roll. In today’s game there would probably be a large center waiting on him and blocking his lay-up. The three-second area was the place where action took place. Skillful dribbling or cutting without the ball could get you to the promise land of points. The pizzazz of yesterday’s game has dissipated and an ugly cloud of zone defense...
A proper coaching philosophy contains principles which improve character development, teach step by step tactical and technical skills, form proper progressive physical training regimens, and carefully utilize team management to handle and control problems with administrative issues. A coach with a sound philosophy should mold a team with strong cohesion, and he should treat players not only as teammates, but as family and friends who are encouraged to develop communication and lifelong learning of skills through positive support and role modeling from the coach (Mergelsberg, 14-15). The philosophy should also contain written documents of implemented strategies and techniques, so that the coach will know what to improve upon season by season
Sports are often identified to have positive influences on many individuals. The sports industry is growing worldwide, especially the basketball industry, which is regarded in second place behind football.
