Produced by Illumination Entertainment and released by Universal Pictures, the famous Despicable Me 2 hit theatres on July 3, 2013. This movie had an astonishing worldwide box office of $970,361,125 with a budget of only $76,000, which caused it to become one of the most profitable films in the 100-year history of Universal Studios. This film was directed by the wonderful Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud and written by the brilliant Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio. Despicable Me 2 also became the second highest grossing animated film of 2013 and the third highest grossing film of 2013.
Since the first movie, Gru becomes a devoted father, raising his daughters Margo, Edith and Agnes while also researching a jelly and jam business with Dr. Nefario and the minions. In the meantime, a powerful aircraft using magnetism steals a laboratory in the Arctic Circle. The Anti-Villain League, who are dedicated to fighting crime on a global scale, send agent Lucy Wilde to recruit Gru, to help the agency solve the mystery. Before this, Gru’s life was very boring and domesticated but now a new villain has surfaced and they must discover who has stolen the laboratory. This is crucial as the lab stored a powerful chemical called PX-41 that has the ability to transform living organisms into aggressive monsters. Gru agrees to help and partners with Lucy to find the evil person. Gru first suspects that the owner of a Mexican restaurant, Eduardo Perez, may be the villain El Macho who is believed to be dead. Because Gru is blinded by his overprotectiveness of his children and starts growing some attraction to his partner Lucy, he doesn’t realize that his minions are being quietly kidnapped for some evil purpose. ...was at #1 on the iTunes charts for a long time. It is consistently played on the radio, as the song is super bubbly and fun to sing along too. Some of the mentioned achievements prove that Despicable Me 2 is truly is such a great movie and a big hit.
I would give this movie a 9/10 rating and definitely recommend it to those of all ages, as this movie appeals to the entire family. There is absolutely nothing that I hated about this movie, other than the fact that it made me die of laughter. There are so many moments in the movie that you will remember forever because of the incredible amount of comedy. The storyline is unique and the animation is just impressive. The characters are so lovable that there’s no way you wont fall in love with them, especially the minions. If you enjoy watching animated or comedy movies, Despicable Me 2 is a perfect movie for you.
