In the essay, " Childfree by Choice, " by Kelly J Welch she wrote about how celebrities opted out of having children. But, now the no kids, no thanks trend started moving to the mainstream of USA. Welch explains that people wants to be childfree for several reasons. Some reasons are they want to be financially free, have educational or career goals. Some believe the world is too dangerous for children and they feel the world's resources are limited. Some decided to be childfree because they want to spend more time with each other. Welch wrote, " Women in this category desire to remain childfree for practical reasons, such as educational or career goals" (258). Once you have kids you can't put as much effort into your education or career as you would like. You have to be home at a reasonable time, can't do overtime unless you have a babysitter. Not to mention, you have to carry the baby for 9 months you're going to be tired a lot. When you're out at dinner or shopping you often see people texting on their phones instead of communicating with each other. We don’t know how to live less behind screens and more in the real world. Spending quality time together is very important to keep your bond strong. Welch wrote, " Couples opted for the no-kids track to spend more time with one another" (257). Research has shown that one of the major reasons that most relationships fail is because couples do not give importance to spending enough time together. They do not have a lot of responsibilities to follow through. Throughout time children have a large opportunity to be exposed to technology, and with that time they have gotten more attached and in need to have that tablet or ipad. Not only does the increase of the type of actions the child needs to take to get it but also changes the attitude of the child. For example when one child gets a phone or an ipad that other sibling wants to have one because the older or other child has one. Technology is so easy for the youth to access and there are many things that affect children through the use of technology. Children can misuse technology by accessing inappropriate materials, most kids today have smart phones and are able to access this so easily. Another reason children are affected by technology is that they are never taught how to properly use it, so they begin to think what they are doing is okay, when it is not, at a young age. My generation is more prone to the misuse of technology because they have grown up with it and it has been apart of their childhood. Almost every child between the ages of eight and twelve are getting cell phones. The average home in America has as many televisions as they do people. Only 20% of American homes do not have a computer. Technology is quickly becoming a new way of life. The amount of time people are on their devices is growing rapidly. According to The Huffington Post, people are on their devices for on average about eleven hours and fifty-two minutes a day. That is almost half a day and a lot longer than most people sleep or work. People have not realized yet how they or their families are being affected by this constant use of technology. As a result of technology increasing, children are experiencing health problems, school issues, and social problems.
