An Inactive Bystander

Have you ever heard the term “inactive bystander”? An inactive bystander is someone who watches an incident or event occur without any interference. During the Holocaust in World War II, various nations had zero interference in defending the Jewish people while Hitler murdered and persecuted them. Most interference came later on, once the genocide had already been occurring for quite some time. You could say it was too late because this inaction and lack of justice led to the slaughter eleven million Jewish people. Does our world learn from its mistakes? Genocide is still practiced in our world today, but are any actions being taken? Will the world, or even the United States, wait until it is too late again?
A genocide is currently taking place in Syria. In early 2011, the Syrian president Bashar al-Assad began breaking down peaceful protests and brutally punishing the protesters that ignited them. If this goes on without notice, there is a chance for an even bigger epidemic of hatred to be brought upon the allies for not showing a defense for these people. The biggest consequence is more innocent lives lost on our account. Justice needs to be found for those who are singled out by a government so that the world may live in peace.
As a conclusion, the world has not fully applied it 's mistakes from World War II. The United States has made progress by sending its troops, but still has denied a safe haven for those being persecuted. Hopefully it will be recognized that we need to take more action. If not, there 's another lesson to learn and another essay to write.
