Sixteen year old Beatrice Prior is from the Abnegation faction but selflessness never came naturally to her. When they must take their aptitude test to see which faction they will live in for the rest of their lives. Her test comes back inconclusive. She shows equal aptitude of Abnegation, Erudite, and Dauntless. On Choosing Day she decides to join Dauntless. After Tris jumps into the Pit and onto the net, Four's hand is the one she grabs and he pulls her out of the pit. He is later revealed to be the Dauntless transfer initiates' instructor. On the first day of training, Four shows the Dauntless transfers fighting technique. He also shows the transfer initiates on how to shoot a gun. Four also teaches and shows them how to fight. While walking around, watching the initiates, during which Four goes over to Tris and examines her saying, "You don't have much muscle, so you're better off using your knees and elbows." Tris changes from being unsure and weak to a strong, brave, and determined in the book, Divergent. In the beginning of the story, Tris thinks she is not selfless enough to be in Abnegation. She is even more confused as her aptitude test determines she is divergent, a person who has more than one personality type who is suited for more than one faction. As she transfers to Dauntless, Tris realizes that she is at a disadvantage in Stage One, which involved physical activity. She is short and scrawny, and she doesn’t excel in an of the exercises alongside losing the fights. This threatens her chance of passing initiation. As a result of this sudden change, Tris misses her caring family. However, Tris doesn’t mourn and drown in self-pity. Instead,
Beatrice and Benedick show their apparent distaste for each other right from the first scene. Beatrice mocks Benedick to the Governor of Messina, claiming that she always beats him in a battle of wits and the last time they crossed paths Benedict’s “five wits went halting off, and now is the whole man governed by one” (1,1,50). Clearly relishing resuming their ‘merry war’, Beatrice cuts Benedick down at the first opportunity, telling him “I wonder that you still will be talking, Signor Benedick, nobody marks you” (1,1,105). Incredulously, Benedick retorts, “what my dear lady distain! Are you yet living?” (1,1,95). So, the dynamic of the two is set and it goes on from there in the same vein. Society longs for a perfect model to show how humanity should be. Throughout history, perfection has been looked for in gods and other-worldly beings, yet never in humans. Perhaps this is because perfection is subjective and unattainable. Each person can have their own idea of what makes someone perfect, which can make the most ideal person, imperfect. One simple flaw can be seen as imperfect. Despite that, with the advancement of technology and media, people try to become perfect through surgeries and other, more damaging, processes. In “The Birthmark” by Nathaniel Hawthorne, a scientist believes that the removal of his wife’s birthmark can make her perfect, or rather, his idea of perfect. Hawthorne uses symbolism, foreshadowing, and dark romantic ideals to say that while attempting to be perfect, you can be hurting yourself or others.
Beatrice is an extremely crucial character in ‘Much Ado About Nothing’. She is one of the reasons that many plans and schemes fall into place to provide us with the outcome that the play finally reaches. Shakespeare depicts Beatrice as a very strong character who knows what she wants and how she wants to achieve it. Her characteristics of sharp wit and her ability to be acutely opinionated allow her to be a notable contrast from the other women in the play, whether this be in a positive or a negative way.
In the previous book, Divergent, Beatrice Prior (Tris) left her faction, Abnegation to go to Dauntless. When she finds out Erudite is trying to overthrow the Abnegation by mind controlling the Dauntless, she goes on a mission to prevent it. After succeeding, it left the city in chaos. It created more problems that she would face later on in the book, Insurgent. An hour after it ended, Tris and Tobias travel to the Amity headquarters because that’s where the surviving Abnegation are.
However, the director changes some of the work of Veronica Roth when the protagonist and her dad was heading to the Choosing Ceremony building where she will decide for the rest of her life. In the novel, Andrew was portrayed as compliant, selfless, dedicated and submissive to their faction Abnegation where the protagonist Beatrice, was born into. The director used Beatrice’s internal monologue to show how selfless her father is “the elevator is crowded, so my father volunteers to give a cluster of Amity our place. We climb the stairs instead following him unquestioningly.” (P.40).

Set in a futuristic dystopia Chicago there is a society that is divided into five factions: Abnegation; selflessness, Amity; peaceful, Candor; honest, Dauntless; brave, and Erudite; knowledgeable. Each represents a different virtue of living one’s life. The children of this society have to decide whether they want to stay in their faction or switch to another, the choice is theirs. The young Beatrice “Tris” Prior makes a choice that surprises everyone including herself. After what seems to be the wrong choice, Tris and her fellow faction members have to go through a very competitive training in order to live with their new faction. They must go through intense psychological tests and extreme physical training that can either transform them or destroy them. If they fail to complete their training successfully they will be left frictionless and an outcast to society. While the Dauntless train, the Erudite devolve a life threatening plan that is carried out that night. They developed a serum that stops the brain’s thought process and all of the Dauntless become sleeper soldiers for they were injected with it. The serum does not work on Tris or Tobias “Four” Eaton because they are both Divergent. When they try to escape they are both caught and brought to Jeanine, the Erudite leader. She then sentences Tris to death and Tobias is sent to the control room to view the attack. Tris is locked inside a glass tank that fills with water, but moments later her mother saves her life. ...
