World Poverty

We live in a world that technology rules the world and we have the opportunity of creating a better future for ourselves. However, with all this technology around us, many of us don’t notice that there are millions of other people around the world that do not have the same opportunities and accommodations as we have. There are over 600 million children living in extreme poverty. Almost half the world lives less than $2.50 a day. They live day by day without sufficient food, shelter, or education. They live like this without a choice. There are many reasons on why they live in such horrible conditions. Some are simply because of the individual. People who live below the poverty line simply follow a cycle. Their parents were poor, therefore they could not provide an education for their children, which leads them in the future not to obtain a job and at the end they stay poor. This cycle repeats over and over and over again. For this cycle to stop someone must help them obtain an education so they can afford a job and be able to sustain themselves. If they can afford an education for their kids then they will be able to find a proper job and can live independently. Furthermore, the individual itself is not the only reason. War and political instability are another one of the biggest reasons world poverty keeps on growing. William from the Borgen Project states, “It is a telling sign that the poorest countries in the world have all experienced civil war and serious political upheaval at some point in the 20th century and many of them have a weak government”. It is clear that without safety, stability and security, economic prosperity cannot grow. Each individual need these basics in order for them to work and obtain an education. Likewise, laws are needed to protect people’s rights, property and investments. Without them, there is no security for business owners to safely invest in a country’s economy.
