"My role in society, or any artist's or poet's role, is to try and express what we all feel. Not to tell people how to feel. Not as a preacher, not as a leader, but as a reflection of us all” (Reid). John Lennon was a musician, singer, and songwriter who rose to worldwide fame with his music as a founder member of the Beatles. John Lennon’s songs became international hits among a large variety of audiences. His songs were more than music; they were an inspiration to anti-war protesters and “expressed freedom for the oppressed” (“John Lennon”). John Lennon was placed as the “ leader of a revolution in which the center of creative conscious shifted to young people”(Wenner). He helped introduce the world to rock & roll and freethought. Lennon's brutally confessional solo work and his political activism were a huge influence on subsequent generations of artists and social reformers.
