Jackie Robinson the First Black Major League Baseball Player
Jackie Robinson is important because he was the first black major league baseball player who was around during the Civil Rights Movement. Jackie Robinson’s older brother inspired him to pursue his talents and love for athletics as they were growing up. His older brother name was Matthew Robinson, who was a silver medal winner in the 200-meter dash. Matthew came in second place behind Jesse Owens in the 1936 Olympic game in Berlin. Jackie Robinson is a very important athlete to this day because of his accomplishments and overcoming the hard times when major league baseball was a segregated game and back when the Civil Rights Movement was taking place and when baseball was just a white man’s sport but Jackie Robinson changed that (“Robinson, Jackie Biography”).
Jackie Robinson grew up in a big family. His mother was a single parent so basically him and his brothers were the men of the house and had to take care of their mother. Jackie Robinson was the youngest of five children and was happily raised by his mother (“Robinson, Jackie Biography, Robinson, Jackie - Black History”). Jackie Robinson was 5’11 and weighed 204 lb. Jackie Robinson attended John Muir High School as a teenager then graduated and attended Pasadena Junior College (“Robinson, Jackie - Black History”). Jackie Robinson was an outstanding athlete in high school and chose to attend a Junior College before going to a big Division 1 school. When he got to Pasadena Junior College, his athletic success started to skyrocket.

Jackie Robinson was a black man that played a white man only sport. Jackie Robinson’s life was outstanding regardless of the obstacles that were thrown in his way in order for him to make it to the top. Jackie Robinson overcame the pain people put him through with the support of his family, friends, and his God given talent, which was playing baseball. Jackie Robinson overcame the negativity of white people during the Civil Rights Movement. For this reason, Jackie Robinson never gave up on his dream and proved people wrong. Jackie Robinson became a vocal champion for the African-American athletes around the world (“Robinson, Jackie - Black History”).
