“It takes a village” means that it takes a community to raise a child. The same way it takes the people to take care of a community and each other. To take part in community service means that you care and are giving back to those who are less fortunate. Performing acts of community service shows the appreciation and gratefulnees the people of the community have for the community. Community service builds character and creates a sense of humbleness to those who take part in it. As part of my community service I went to Kean University for the day to volunteer for Aspire High. I had recently learned about Aspire High, during a Potential Candidate meeting, and its mission to guide high school students through the process of aplying to college, or sinply get them thinking about their future. Throughout the day it was nice seeing the students that were in my group open up to me more about their lives and where they see themselves in the future. Jude Children’s Hospital Walk/ Run at the Meadowlands Racetrack. I had never attended a walk for any foundation or organization such as St. Jude. Although it was very early in the morning on a Saturday, many people had been there earlier to set up the tables. There was a great sense of passion and commitment to the organization and those who were participating in the actual walk/ run. Everyone was filled with tangible energy and it was so contagious. Not only was it great to see how many people were there to volunteer, but also to see how many sororities and fraternities were there to support St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Seeing how many companies were there along with these organizations demonstrated that St. Jude Children’s Hospital was doing something right for the right reasons.
