Holling’s Ride

Schmidt you can see Holling transform from a boy to a man. He was insecure about himself and didn’t want to end up like his dad. But then he found himself with help from his friends and family You can be your own person, you don’t have to be the person you are told to be, you have your own choices. Then he told his dad that “As he unlocked the car, ,my father said “I bet you’re glad you don't have to go through something like that” “I guess I am,” I said. “What do you mean, I guess I am’?” he said. Would you want to stand up there with all that stuff all over you and chant at everyone?” It was a whole lot more than chanting at everyone ,” I said. Let’s get in the car,” said my mother. “No,” said my father. He put his arms up on top of the station wagon’s roof. “I’d like to know what Holling thought was a whole lot more.” My stomach got tight. “He became a man” I said. “You think that’s how you become a man, by chanting a few prayers?” “You think you become a man by getting a job as an architect?” My father straightened. “That’s exactly how u become a man,”He said.” So that is when Holling finally stands up for himself and say he doesn't need to follow his dad’s footsteps (260).
So Holling was unsure of himself and then he found himself little by little. When he started to find himself was at the train station, field trip, and the bar mitzvah. Because when he was at the bar mitzvah he open a new door and learned that he didn’t need to follow his dad's step and he was his own
