Unhappy clients might lead to loss of customers. The company may see George as a liability and decide to fire him because of the money loss. Another thought is the company may have to report this incident bringing in the health department that could shut down the company temporary or permanently for the health hazard. At first glance the milkshake scenario seems so easy to answer but there is so much more to consider. Utilitarian theory considers all these options and weighs the pros of cons deciding on the least harmful. Utilitarian theory weighs the lesser of two evils. They understand that there is no definite right or wrong answer for some situations. A company cannot just think of the individual but has to think of the business as a society. George being an employee could have thought about the maggot infestation in the same terms as Paul did. If George turned a blind eye he could save the company a lot of mix, which saves money. It would ensure that the production orders would be finished on time. Restaurants would still get their milkshake containers. The whole crew would get to go home once they were done.
