Anywhere you go you see pictures and hear stories about what celebrity did what, and who’s sleeping with who. Its clear to me America is obsessed with celebrities, having to know everything about them and their personal lives. This growing obsession is sick and unhealthy for the average American, it causes our culture to only value the celebrities and look down on the normal everyday person, allowing the average everyday hero to be lost in a sea of celebrity drama. This obsession is causing our kids to grow up and wanna live unrealistic lives, hoping to be just like Miley Ceyris or the next Justin Bibber. Our countries obsession with celebrities has moved from being a healthy hobby; into a stalker obsessive problem.
When you turn on the news some of the biggest stories are going to be about what celebrity is in rehab or who’s sex tape leaked on to the internet, this to me is not news! Everyday thousands of people go to rehab and thousands more share nudes on the internet but you don’t hear about them. If its news Brittany did it than why is it not news the girl down the street did it? This obsession has no real affect in our lives and this should not even be news at all. If you look at our media more and more important news stories are being overran by dumb useless news on celebrities. Causing americans to value non important issues and ignore real news. More people know what Honey Boo Boo did today, than whats really going on in the world. This to me is sad and needs to change before it gets worse. Sure its important to have an idle and look up to someone, but its wrong to follow them around everywhere they go, taking pictures of there every step, poking our nose into their personal lives. Giving celebrities huge amounts of power over everything in our society. But what does Justin Biber know about the economy, or what does Oprah know about running a country? Thats the thing, they don’t know, and because people blindly vote on a presdient only because most the celebrities like him, is causing our political figures to care less about the everyday citizen, and work harder to please the celebrity that helped him get elected.
This obsession with celebrities i belave is one of the largest problems facing america today. and if the situation does not get under control our country will soon be completely lost in the drama and hysteria that is our celebrity obsessions.
Part of that is because some people’s perspectives of celebrities allow them think as if they’re on a pedestal and are more important than the average human. When people vision these celebrities as these quintessential people it enable’s their own thoughts and opinions on the celebrity. It’s like brainwashing, these celebrities only show the media what they want, which allows them to put up a whole façade and mask who they truly are. During the O.J Simpson trial it opened more people’s minds to visualize the concept that celebrities have the ability to be just as deranged as the average person, and that we are all equal, but the only difference that’s separates us is the fact that their job is in the lime
Although fame and being in the spotlight may seem like it’s all fun and games, when a celebrity starts doing bad things, those things spread like wild fire. The tabloids create an extended truth about the stories that actually take place. Everything that a star does is captured in either a video or a picture. All the privacy that you once had is now gone. You represent that nation to other countries and how we as Americans are suppose to be acting. All the bad things that our celebrities do, other countries see and base our nation upon. The actions, good or bad, are looked at as if we all do them. The Rolling Stones and Justin Bieber represent different time periods and how society has changed within the last few decades, but some of the actions stayed the same. There are drug scandals, ruined relationships, and a musical difference that is undeniable. The years have gone on and the actions had gotten worse. The Stones as well as Beiber have both had a massive impact on the world and the people that live in it.
After observing and researching all the sources portraying celebrities I have came into a conclusion that todays society it seems like all we want is to be accepted and we tend to look at other people and judge. Its not right, we all are different and thats what makes the world go round. It would be a pretty boring world if we were all the same. Celebrities deal with this everyday, I think the paparazzi know more about some celebrities lives than they actually do. They judge them for who they are and what they do, it is not right nor fair.
Society always wants to keep an eye on their favorite celebrities’ life. It is fundamental. Every little detail the public wants to follow like what and where they are eating, whom they will marry, or what they are doing all day –such a vicious cycle.
For example, if something happens to a celebrity that would happen to a normal person on a daily basis, people seem to make too big of a deal out of those things when there's other issues. The gossip industry has become popular in the last few decades. Our society enjoys knowing about the lives of celebrities. We obsess over celebrities on gossip websites, and even obsess to the extent of stalking these celebrities. This industry has impacted our culture immensely. It has tainted our culture in several ways from creating bad role models for our children to making stalking an everyday affair; either way, the media has changed our society greatly. The gossip industry has brought new entertainment for our pleasure, but it has come with negative consequences.
Much of today’s society seems obsessed on what actors/actress, athletes, and music artist are wearing, eating, who they are marrying, dating, where they are vacationing, what affairs they are having or have had, and how they live their everyday lives. What’s so interesting about this obsession is as a society we are implacable and often place celebrities on a pedestal, only to destroy them when they are illusive or promiscuous. Media outlets are swift to report when celebrities are in trouble but quickly forget all their accomplishments. It’s as if we want them to be perfect but once they are associated with a scandal we embark on destroying their reputation and character. Do we as a society have the right to castigate celebrities when they misbehave? Do celebrities have the right to become livid when they are focused on for their immoral behavior? Do they love the media attention only when it benefits them? Before we can answer the above questions, would we, furthermore, can we live our life as a celebrity if given the opportunity?
The deception of media consumers allows for the abuse of economic infrastructures of society. An obsession with celebrities’ lives passifies ordinary people in accepting the stratification of the elite businesses and the ordinary citizens. Though pseudo-events and celebrity worship may not be exactly complementary, the similarities of both leaves the public to be utterly vulnerable unless they begin to critically think for themselves.

Often times, when famous people run for political office, they are not nearly the most qualified for the job. They usually do not have experience in the field of politics and they are not the right choice. However, they often get elected. This occurs because celebrities can do many things throughout the course of an election that most ordinary politicians can not do. Celebrities have a very special way of interacting with their constituents and this helps them to get elected and succeed once they are in office. There is a reason many politicians work hard to achieve celebrity status once they are in office.
