The political culture of the United States of America was founded on foundation beliefs that make democracy successful including liberty, equality, democracy, individualism, rule of law, and capitalism (ushistory.org, 2015). These are the common beliefs that shape our political behavior and are the reason why the United States has succeeded at democracy when other countries have failed. Equality is defined by Oxford Dictionary as the state of being equal, especially in status, rights, and opportunities. With that being said, I do not believe that we as Americans have succeeded in achieving equality for all. Equality is on a broad spectrum in the world. What does equality and freedom actually mean? And is America really equal. We are going to explore some of the most famous people who set standard for us to be called equal. Several years ago it was a fight for many people around the country to be able to call themselves free, now what do we have to show for that. The new generation coming into to the world are becoming lazy and not learning what it actually mean to be free and equal. America was made a free country, but there are still injustice things here and on the uprising. Did Dr. King really make a change? Did Emmett till get us to listen and open our minds? Or was it Abraham who tried to get people to hear his speech about freedom? All of these men did something to help change how segregate and unfair laws were back then. But what can do to make these men continue to be the reason why we call ourselves free? The people of today and tomorrow have to do better because yes, a lot has changed, but that doesn’t mean it will stay this way. I heard that history repeats itself and if that is true then the upcoming generations are going to have to get on board and continue to strive for equality and freedom. I don’t think America is truly free nor are the American people just settling because they know that this freedom might be as far as we can go. Sometimes settling isn’t the right thing to do if we are unhappy with the situation we are in we should change it. As Obama said, I know my country has not perfected itself. A Not So 50:50 Nation Culture Wars? The Myth of a Polarized America: Book Review The book Culture Wars? The Myth of a Polarized America by Morris P. Fiorina, Samuel J. Abrams, and Jeremy C. Pope is a persuasive text regarding America and its division on political topics. In chapter one, Fiorina begins with a powerful quote from Pat Buchanan’s 1992 speech at the Republican National Convention, “There is a religious war…a cultural war as critical to the…nation…as the cold war…for this war is for the soul of America” (Fiorina et al. 1).
American states each have individual political cultures which are important to our understanding of their political environments, behavior, and responses to particular issues. While voters probably do not consciously think about political culture and conform to that culture on election day, they seem to form cohesive clusters in different areas of the state, creating similar group political ideologies. Because of these similarities, it is possible to measure the dominant political culture within states or areas of a state, gaining insight into the mind-set of state residents. Whatever the state culture, whether liberal or conservative, participatory or exclusive, political culture identifies dominant, state-wide trends. The question remains whether there is an accurate way to measure this political culture phenomenon in the United States.
The United States of America has engaged in the battle known as political polarization since before its foundation in 1776. From the uprising against the powerful British nation to the political issues of today, Americans continue to debate about proper ideology and attempt to choose a side that closely aligns with their personal beliefs. From decade to decade, Americans struggle to determine a proper course of action regarding the country as a whole and will often become divided on important issues. Conflicts between supporters of slavery and abolitionists, between agriculturalists and industrialists, and between industrial workers and capitalists have fueled the divide. At the Congressional level there tends to be a more prevalent display of polarization and is often the blame of Congress’ inefficiency. James Madison intentionally designed Congress to be inefficient by instating a bicameral legislation. Ambition would counter ambition and prevent majority tyranny. George Washington advised against political parties that would contribute to polarization and misrepresentation in his Farewell Address of 1796. Washington warns, “One of the expedients of party to acquire influence within particular districts is to misrepresent the opinions and aims of other districts.” Today, the struggle to increase power between political parties results in techniques to gain even the smallest marginal gains. To truly understand political polarization, we must examine data collected through a variety of means, the effects of rapidly changing technology, and observe what techniques are used to create such a polarized political system.
Texas, the second largest state, and one of the seven states that do have an income tax; it says much about the political culture, ideologies and public opinion that characterized Texas. There are three different types of political culture: moralistic, individualistic and traditionalistic. The first one, moralistic, is characterized by encouraging governmnet involvement in economic and social issues. Government is seen as a public service to improve the living conditions of those who are governed (). The individualistic culture relies mainly in the marketplace. America has always been a country with different cultures, races, and people. Only, not everyone has been accepting of different kinds of people. A persons thoughts on another person can differ depending on a person's race, gender, or age. In Harper Lee’s, To Kill a Mockingbird, racial equality is nonexistent. The African Americans were treated like they weren’t people, and were totally isolated from the Maycomb, Alabama society. America will never achieve true racial and social equality because people are ignorant, have a history of being prejudiced, and are unjust.
According to Daniel Elazer, there are three separate manifestations of the American political culture. Daniel states that there wasn’t just one political culture that there was three, these being moralistic, individualistic, and traditionalistic. Daniel states that each individual state has a culture type of the three that were named above. He shows that the southern states are more of the traditionalistic type. Elazer goes on to explain that migration in the 19th century gave pattern to the dominant cultures, and that migration was happening from east to west. As these people migrated throughout the United States not only did they move to get a new life or so to say a fresh start, these people also took their values with them. Dominant culture

That discrimination is no longer a problem in Texas. Social media and things shown on tv which show women with power are giving people false thoughts that society has achieved equality but it has not especially not wage equality.
In terms of equality, we aren’t meeting the expectations of the founding fathers because in today's society there are race, income, and gender inequalities. These all have to do with social darwinism, male chauvinism, and social class degradation. It was stated in the Declaration of Independence “We all hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” By the founding fathers we are expected to have these rights, but the way the world is today we don’t have them. The people of the United States should try to fight for our rights.
The idea of political culture is found within the state’s history. The history of the state is impacted by the people settled in the region, religious backgrounds, and geography. The history of the state influences the attitudes and beliefs that people hold regarding their political system. Daniel Elazar theorized a connection between the states’ history and attitude towards government by explaining differences in government between states. Every state is different with some common ground. Elazar’s theory divides states into three types: moralistic, traditionalistic and individualistic. The state’s constitution defines the powers of government with political culture bias. Because of the state constitution, the political culture influences the power and limitations of governors, legislative, and judiciaries.
The society is slowly becoming more open to women, and giving them more opportunity. If America continues in this path, of allowing everyone the same opportunity, I think, we can focus on other important issues to make our country one of the greatest in the world. By continuing the Market Revolution we are advancing our country, rather than setting it back. If we go back to old philosophies like slavery, and poor treatment towards others, we are not heading in the right direction. America needs to move far away from these ideas, and when eliminate these suggestions of the past, we will truly become a great country. In the words of former President Jefferson “ I like the dreams of the future better than the history of the past.” As a nation we need to focus on moving forward, and advancing our country preferably then reversing the growth our country has
Equality and equal opportunity are two terms that have changed or have been redefined over the last 100 years in America. The fathers of our constitution wanted to establish justice and secure liberty for the people of the United States. They wrote about freedom and equality for men, but historically it has not been practiced. In the twentieth century, large steps have been made to make the United States practice the ideals declared in the Constitution and Bill of Rights. The major changes following Rosa Park’s refusal to give up her bus seat to a young white man and the Brown v. Board of Education trial in 1954.
Women and men for the most part have reached complete equality, but it hasn’t always been this way. In the past women weren’t treated as full citizens, by not having complete rights, limited amount of jobs, and hardly a say in anything. Today women have the same opportunities as men such as in, education, jobs, and full voting rights. Although all these rights have only been intact until just recently, women have only had a say in choosing a president for just a little under a century. In the past, women were expected to stay home and take care of the family while the men were at work. This was the expectation for women for centuries. However, that is no longer the case. Even with a large percentage of women at work, a wage a gap is prevalent. Although the wage gap has nothing to do with being sexist its just that women have a more passionate side to them, which makes them better teachers nurses, and
