Occasionally, in a group discussion setting people would ask what my views about certain social topics are. They asked these questions because they wanted to know my perception of the differences between my Vietnamese’s culture and the American way. My family and I emigrated from Vietnam in 1998. It certainly was a culture shock. In addition to the language barriers, weather, culture, but more importantly, there are opportunities that I could not find in Vietnam. In the United Stated, the children are guaranteed a prospect to complete their education from elementary to high school with no cost. There is always a positive and negative spectrum of everything. Diversity in the workplace also meets with many challenges. Beside communication that is based on language and culture barriers. There are also employees that would resistance to the change of the work force dynamics. Training alone may not satisfy the organization need to implement diversity in the workplace. An organization must need to evaluate the diversity in the workplace, and then cultivate a plan that would work for the organization. Most companies now required training its employees on equal opportunity in the workplace. This provided the foundation for equal treatment to all employees, regardless of their background, religions, age, or gender. Execution of the diversity in the workplace strategy required the support and commitment of the organization leadership and management.
