The American Constitution has an effective role in the United States society. The Constitution was created after the Articles of Confederation were proved to be too weak. The Constitution is an intention to establish our government and everything the people of America do is advised by the Constitution. The writing of the Constitution defines how the government constructs itself and explains the rights us citizens hold. It also explains the three branches of government, Legislative, Judicial, and Executive, and explains how the three branches work with one another. In order to protect individual rights, ten amendments were added to the United States Constitution by the framers. These amendments are called the Bill of Rights. The most relevant aspect of the American Constitution in modern society is both Amendment I and Amendment II. Amendment I states, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances”. Freedom of Religion came from the Framers in which they “aimed at converting the liberal principle of tolerance into the radical principle of liberty, by prohibiting the government establishment of religion and guaranteeing religious freedom to all” (With Liberty for All). Having religious freedoms affect several different aspects of our daily lives including education and the ability to express your beliefs in society. Religious freedoms are an imperative aspect of education today.
For hundreds of years, the Catholic community established schools to educate children which relates their learning to God. In the catholic school systems, students are required to enroll in classes to learn and integrate faith into one’s life. Without religious freedoms in the United States today, catholic schools would shut down and the government would have an instituted religion for the American society to practice.
