With the new tax reforms being passed in the United States, it is possible that what has been changed will harm charities and non-profits. These non-profit organizations may lose a majority of their funding because the new tax reforms made it a big possibility that it will cause the American people to donate less. In the article, “Recent tax reforms in America will hurt charities” published by the Economist on February 15, 2018, it shows how charities will be hurt in the near future by the new tax bill and how the American people use it when filing for their taxes. For such a capitalistic country based on providing for your household only, America has a charitable characteristic deeply ingrained in its culture and society. There’s an abundance of charity or non-profit advertisements, commercials or people out in the world asking for donations which people do donate to even if it is just one dollar. It is seen as impolite as to not even try to donate to help those in need. Their funding will be cut, they may have to downsize their organizations and budget everything. Non-profits do contribute a good amount of money to the economy. With their funding being cut, workers will also be let go since they won’t have the funds to pay them a basic wage. The unemployment will go up because of the workers being laid off from non-profits all over the country. Not only will their workers be harmed so will the people they help. Poor or homeless people who get help from food banks or churches will be cut off. They’ll have to find new ways to eat or get supplies they can’t afford.
