The band I picked to write about is Shinedown, and I think that their style is Alternative Rock that is rooted from hard rock and a little bit of a grunge sound with it also in vocals on a few of their songs. Most of their songs cover the hard rock beats and instruments in them. They don’t use a lot of electronic sounds or experimental sounds, but they do use guitar, bass, and drums. Brent Smith, the lead vocalist, has a strong voice, and his lyrics are somewhat poetic sometimes. They don’t have “concept albums,” for they usually have albums full of singles. Shinedown started in 2001, and their original band members were, Brent Smith, Barry Kerch, Brad Stewart, and Jasin Smith. After 2 years of being together they had their debut album in 2003 (Grierson). Their sound was compared early on to Nickleback and Creed, which was a popular sound in the early 2000’s, and their debut album eventually went Platinum (Rivadavia). The song’s most popular hit was the single, “Fly from the Inside,” but my favorite from song on the album was their cover of, “simple man.” Simple man was originally a Lynard Skynard song, but they did a very good job covering it. A few laters the band released an album called Sound of Madness, and on that album they worked with a bigger producer, Rob Cavallo, who worked with bands like Goo Goo Dolls and Greed Day. As the years passed for the band they switched band members a couple of times, but Brent and Barry have been there the entire time (Rivadavia). While touring they toured with 3 Doors Down, and that helped boost their popularity even more (Grierson). They also toured with bands like Van Halen, and Velvet Revolver. (Grierson) Tim Grierson from About.com says that, “Shinedown play melodic hard rock hea... ... middle of paper ... ...e clearly a rock band, but their style and sound tends to change a bit. I think he kind of has the power in his voice to be able to experiment with his sound and stretch the capabilities of their band I personally like their acoustic songs like “call me”. It is mellow enough to listen about anytime, and it also shows that he doesn’t only have to be around the loud instruments when he sings, for he still sounds pretty good with the slow more quite acoustic sounds. “Call Me” also uses a piano in it which I enjoy in rock songs. Today's music scene is slowly growing, and differentiating in styles. One of the newest styles of music that has broken out is a generally unrecognized genre of music called "Geek Rock." By taking the meaningful lyrics of Emo, the heavy guitar riffs of Grunge, and the do-it-yourself attitude of Indie rock, this genre forms a new-wave approach to music. Many new artists have been categorized under this label, including Ben Kweller, Ozma, and Rooney. Rivers Cuomo, front man and lyricist of Weezer, is predominantly responsible for this underground rock movement. By transferring his life experiences into a musical statement, Rivers Cuomo has the ability to appeal to his fans on a new level.
The Dave Matthews Band has been a musical power house for years. They have meshed together almost every type of music together to create their extremely unique sounds and attractiveness towards their music. Dave Matthews, lead singer and guitarist from South Africa has put together a band that no one will ever be able to create again. Dave picked four extremely talented and unique sounding men to join his band and together they have created some amazing music. The members of the band include Stefan Lessard on bass, Boyd Tinsley on violin, Leroi Moore on saxophone and one of the best drummers in the world, Carter Beauford. Together these men will one day leave behind a similar reputation as one of the all time greatest "jam" bands of time.
The Rock album I have chosen is “Dookie” by Green Day. This album was released in February 1st, 1994 by Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, California or Reprise Records in New York. Green Day's band members include Billie Joe Armstrong (Guitar and Vocalist), Tre Cool (Drums), Mike Dirnt (Bass), Jason White (Guitar), and Al Sobrante (Drums.) The main composers of this album was the band Green Day, Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt as the main composers. The engineers were Neill King and Casey McCrankin. The producer was Rob Cavallo. This album is 39 minutes and 40 seconds long and has 15 songs. The songs are as follows: “Burnout,” “Having A Blast,” “Chump,” “Longview,” “Welcome To Paradise,” “Pulling Teeth,” “Basket Case,” “She,” “Sassafras Roots,” “When I Come Around,” “Coming Clean,” Emenius Sleepus,” “In The End,” “F.O.D,” and finally “All By Myself.” The song “All By Myself is a 'secret' song that was added at the every end, only if you heard the whole album, past the silence. The album has sold about 15 to 20 million of sales to date. This is the album that allowed Green Day to gain super star fame.
The “Seattle sound”, a phrase coined for music created by Alternative-style rock bands based in Seattle, is said to contain three (3) basic elements: it is loud, it is honest, and it is borne of musicians that have experienced a degree of difficulty in achieving recognition. The “Seattle sound”, often times referred to as “grunge”, is notorious for being performed at exceedingly high volume. It has been defined as honest music because it is performed in a raw and unrefined manner, without the aid of electronic polishing. Additionally, a common thread of grunge bands is said to be that they suffer from an uncommonly low rate of recognition
In conclusion I feel authenticity in rock music has a huge part to play and although it is a very snobby culture of "we will like you until we've had enough" its still personal to every person and they have a choice to decide who fits into their perfect music world.

In their music you will find punk, of course, but also rock, hardcore, ska, even reggae and jazz. If you ask me they are a just a punk-ska band. Their songs are interesting and different from one another. Each song has it's own characteristics.

The members of this iconic rock band are Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Bonham, and John Paul Jones. In this research paper we will take a look at each of these musical members who contributed to the influential band, Led Zeppelin.
To many Rock musicians who have helped popularize Rock in the more modern era, they describe rock as having a blues genre mixed in it. It is characterized as music with heavy beats and melodies when it first started to come up. It is also described as Black Rhythm, blues, and country white music. These bands usually consist of a guitar, drums, bass, and keyboard or their instrument that gives Rock it’s uniqueness. It is generally based on twelve-bar blues, and the first and third beats are heavily accented.
Rock music is a term that should be familiar. Originally dubbed “rock and roll” in the 1940’s and 1950’s, rock and roll is almost always fronted by an electrical guitar and heavily influenced by blues, R&B, and even country music. By the late 1960’s and early 1970’s rock and roll began to be shortened to just “rock music”, and the entire style starting branching out into other sub-genres such as punk rock, heavy metal, garage rock, hard rock, among others. The sub-genre in question however is Alternative Rock, which is generally defined as despite following the fundamentals of rock music, it strays away from what is considered “mainstream” at the time by using concepts such as extensive underground music association, muddied or distorted guitars, more prominent use of power chords, and even a sort of rebellious or defiant attitude in lyrics and sound.
Loud, soothing, meaningful, and deep, rock music has many characteristics. These characteristics are ones that rock music fans appreciate. But, many people have different preferences of music, such as pop, rap, country, and other genres. Although there are several types of music, most modern music comes back to the foundation of rock and roll. Many artists have been influenced by the heart-wrenching power of rock music. Most people that enjoy rock music do not know how rock started. It is a genre that has evolved over the years.
The Rolling Stones are one of the most well known hard rock bands. They have a distinctive history that separates them from other similar rock bands. Their unique sound formed the basis of rock and roll. The band had a huge influence on British music through things such as their fashion, fusion of obscure genres, and attitude. Over the course of the last fifty years, The Rolling Stones unique history, sound, and overall look still has an influence on modern British bands.
There is so much information on Rock that I will have to have questions I want to find the answers to about the music. My first question will be, "What instruments are commonly used in a rock band?" This will not be hard to answer as it is a very easy question that has a definite answer. The next question will be, "Who were the first artists to produce Rock music?" This is also an easy question were I will discuss the first Rockers. Continuing on, my next question will ask, "How was the term Rock and Roll' created, and by who?" This may turn out to be a hard question to answer because I am sure there a multiple answers. "Has Rock become more or less popular since its inception?" will be my next question. For this question I will have to look for a survey or poll of some type and present its data. My final question will be, "How has the Music been changed over the years and who changed it?" This will also be an easy question, albeit a long answer. For that question I will be referring to Alternative and Grunge Rock, my preferred form of the music.
