“The Matrix,” and “The Allegory of the Cave,” are both philosophical stories that changes one’s way of thinking and how they perceive reality as it is. There are two “worlds” within that the truth meets more than the eye. It starts of as an illusion, but once that barrier is broken, the truth is revealed. The prisoners in the cave and in the Matrix are set in an illusion as their only knowledge is what their senses are telling them. As expected, they believe that is reality because that what their knowledge only consists of. “The Allegory of the Cave” is the story of how a man was finally was able to let loose from chains and was freed into the real world. “The Matrix,”is the story of how one man escapes and illusion only to face the ugly reality. …show more content…

The way they achieved knowledge, Neo and the freed prisoner learned that their senses are inefficient and that they it can easily be deceived. Both these worlds are controlled by a greater power. For example, Neo lives in a world that is in full control of machines and the prisoner in the cave is subjected to the ones who are responsible for their state. They both also escape from the world they were trapped in and released into the real world. Neo realizes that the life he has been living in is nothing but him held as prisoner, under the control of Matrix. The prisoner in the cave realizes that the shadows he has been looking at all his life have just been, shadows. He soon realizes it was just an act held up by the ones creating the shadows all his life. He sees the fire and is immediately blinded because he has never used them before, just like Neo waking up from the pod. He looks outside and is blinded again by the real world. The man that is freed went back into the cave to try to save his friends and expose them to the real world, and never go back to live there. This happens to Neo except Morpheus is the one that reveals the truth to him and he is the one that saves him so he can fulfill the prophecy made by the Oracle that he is the ”chosen one.” Characters in both stories realize and are shocked by the fact they have been lied and cheated to all
