In this paper I will argue that the novel, The Horse and His Boy (Lewis 2002) is not only a story of adventure but self-discovery, told through literary tools that provide a deeper meaning. Firstly, the allegory of spirituality is represented by Aslan who is directly involved in the lives of the protagonists. This is revealed when Aslan tells Shasta, “I was the lion who forced you to join with Aravis (Lewis 175). I was the cat who comforted you among the houses of the dead (Lewis 175). I was the lion who drove the jackals from you while you slept (Lewis 176). This represents the idea of a spiritual presence whose purpose is to protect, comfort and guide faithful humans.
