Albert gleize was a French artist and writer, he was a key figure of cubism movement through his paintings during the twentieth century. He collaborated with famous artist and writers as Jean Metzinger, Henry Le Fauconnier and Fernand Leger throughout his career, leading a movement of modern art. Edward (Ed) Gein was born in 1906 in La Crosse, Wisconsin. His father was an alcoholic and his mother was controlling and extremely religious. Gein had a very close relationship with his mother because of the way she controlled his life. After the death of his mother he became even further removed from society and his mind became disturbed. He robbed women’s graves and cut off parts of their body’s to keep as keepsakes. He would then place the body’s back into the casket like nothing had ever happened to them. Mark Rothko, born as Marcus Rothkowitz, was born September 25, 1903 in Gvinsk, Russia and by the age of ten had emigrated to the United States with his parents. He attended Yale University in the early 1920's, but never completed his formal education there. In 1925 he entered studies at the Art Students League in New York City where he started painting under the instruction of Max Weber. Ernst was one of multiple artists who emerged from military service emotionally wounded and alienated from European traditions and conventional values. It is believed that many or Ernst’s views and expressions of some of his works are from the emotional impact and devastation came while serving in the war. After his war service, he began to develop his own style. “He made a series of collages, using illustrations from medical and technical magazines to form bizarre juxtapositions of images” (Hopkins 3). Andreas Vesalius was well known for his dissections in the 1500’s. Growing up in Brussels he was captivated by the anatomy of animals. Throughout his childhood Andreas dissected many small animals trying to uncover life’s mystery. This curiosity regarding anatomy came very naturally, due to the fact that he was born into a family of physicians. Vesalius started his formal education at the University of Louvain; then traveled to Paris to continue his studies in medicine. During his life time, Vesalius was an accomplished physician, and professor of anatomy. He also received his degree as a doctor of medicine at the age of twenty-two. Vesalius writings and teachings set the foundation of anatomy we know today, hence why he received the title; founder of modern anatomy.
