Euthanasia has been a controversial topic in the United States for many years now. Euthanasia is the practice of intentionally ending ones life, to relive them from any more pain or suffering. Euthanasia can also be known as mercy killing or mercy death. There are many different viewpoints on whether euthanasia is right or wrong. Those who are for euthanasia believes it is a way to relive extreme pain and suffering and it is a right of freedom of choice to do what one wants to their body. Those who are against euthanasia believe euthanasia devalues human life, goes against religion, and it can cause a slippery slope effect. The first type of euthanasia is Voluntary euthanasia, which is when the patient is conscious and makes the decision to end their life. Second, non-voluntary euthanasia, which is when the patient is unable to give there, informed consent. For example, if the patient is in coma and have severe brain damage they are unable to give consent. So, this is when another family member decides what to do next based on the wishes the patient expressed about these certain circumstances beforehand. Third, involuntary euthanasia is when a person is put to rest without expressing their wishes. We don’t let animals suffer, so why humans?"(Author). Those who are for euthanasia believe that one should have the choice to die if they are in an extreme amount of pain. If they have a terminally ill diseases that will take over their life eventually, then one should be able to choose when they want to die. They argue why one should suffer till their very last breath, when they can be at peace sooner. In the article “How Brittany Maynard Became a ‘Death with Dignity’ Advocate”, Brittany a 29-year old with stage 4 giloblastoma multiform, which is a malignant brain tumor started a campaign to raise awareness about Dignity with Death laws. On November 1, 2014 Brittany took lethal medication prescribed by her doctor to end her suffering. She states, “There is not a cell in my body that is suicidal or that wants to die. I want to live. I wish there was a cure for my disease but there 's not... My glioblastoma is going to kill me, and that 's out of my control. I 've discussed with many experts how I would die from it, and it 's a terrible, terrible way to die. Being able to choose to go with dignity is less terrifying...
