African Origins of Hip-Hop The power of music is incredible during this current time. It is the modern language and a way of expression. Yes this is nothing new to many because music has always been a form of expression and art, However the effect and sway of it during this millennium is greater than it has been before simply because it has become more evident that there has been much less powerful and insightful music and much ditsier and controlling. Lately the music is focused on things like beat, looks and popularity compared to culture and history as it has been in the past. Music has great power it always has and will continue through time however what is it about hip-hop that make it such a big part of music? Another factor in the great influence is the black history alone. The struggles that have been dealt with and fought through; Police brutality, low income, neighborhoods, slavery, and so on. This has a huge impact on youth culture and what they follow. When one has something to say people listen. Yes many of factors conclude the major influence African Culture has on today’s hip hop, however there are people who say there is more including Osumare. It is a combination of a few other main cultures making hip hop not only African American but Afro-diasporic. These are communities around the world, immigrants, and descendants who made their way to Africa. There were many Caribbean influences on hip-hop including dance as mentioned in “African Aesthetic in Global Hip-Hop”.
