This is a very interesting take on the story of Christopher Columbus and His voyage.
The Saying goes” In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue” But what lead to this and why did the Spanish King and Queen choose to support him?
First let us look at Christopher Columbus Himself. First He was not some guy who had an idea
He was a well regarded sea captain and He and his Brother were successful Merchants trading throughout the Mediterranean Sea and along the European coast. He first approached the King of Portugal with his idea that he could sail west to find the orient. The King with the advice of his Advisors decided not to support his quest. While Christopher Columbus was approaching the King of Portugal his Brother was approaching the King of France to present his Brothers idea. …show more content…

The agreement with Christopher Columbus stated that Spain would control all resources and he would claim all lands for Spain and if Christopher Columbus was right they would have control over a shorter route to the Orient and then they would replace the Muslims as the new middlemen.
So what were the advantages and disadvantages of this relationship.
The advantages were that even though Spain put out the money for the voyage the received the majority of the benefits and Christopher Columbus received prestige, the title of Admiral of the Ocean and received wealth.
What were the disadvantages Spain put forth all the money if he was wrong they would lose everything, and Christopher Columbus would lose prestige and may be his life.
Well He was wrong but he did find a new world at first Spain was gracious to him but in the end the removed him from power because he could not handle the power and he ended up a broken man. Spain did become a world and with further exploration the new world was
