Adoption and a Brief Look at Some Causes and Their Effects. For many Americans the ability to have children is halted by medical conditions from either the husband or wife, or some women just do not want to bear a child of their own. There are many options available to these people. Some are very costly and may produce no results or over produce results ending with 7 fetuses in one womb. One of the best options is adoption. There are thousands of children in need of a home in the country and around the world. With that adoption comes much joy and in some cases much frustration. In this essay we will take a brief look at open verses closed adoptions and the effects of each.

The difference is in an open adoption the biological parent’s information is shared with the new parents and so in turn can be shared with the child. In a closed adoption that information is sealed so the new parents and the child may never know who the biological parents were. Open adoption has its positives, mostly you have access to a full family medical history. If the child becomes ill, you have access to possible donors of blood and bone marrow if that need ever arises. The new parents and child would also be able to know what the child may be at risk for later in life. Knowing the biological parents also allows you to know their story, are they letting their child be adopted because they are too young to be a mother, too selfish to give up their current life for a child, or maybe they are sick due to medical issues, drugs, or alcohol. The benefits being the child knows where they came from. It helps to give them a sense of identity they might not have if it had been a closed adoption. They might even get to have a relationship with those biological parents and others from the family. The drawbacks of this type of adoption are that now the child knows who their birth parents are but they want to know why they were given up for adoption. Most of the time no answer will satisfy the adoptive person. They are always going to have that unwanted, unloved twinge in the back of their minds.
