The juvenile requires continuous care even when violent, which mean responses used in different cases of family violence can’t readily be applied. It has a damaging impact on the health and well-being of families, and is surrounded by stigma and shame.

This implies a stable home environment, tied down by a loving couple, is key for children to thrive in school and in life. When the home environment is unstable and parents fight in the presence of their kids, children often think it is their fault and are traumatized. They worry that their parents will not remain together and suffer emotionally. This has an impact to their psychological well-being adversely, takes a significant damage on their development and shows up as bad behavior and poor outcomes in school.

Domestic violence (DV) is a pattern of controlling behavior that involves abuse by one family member or intimate partner to another (e.g., marriage or cohabitation). There are varied forms of DV that range from subtle, coercive forms, to violent abuses, which can result in death. Parental domestic violence can influence teenagers ability to have healthy relationships. Children and young people may be significantly affected by living with domestic violence and impact can endure even after measures have been taken to secure their safety. The teenage violence has affected many of the secondary schools in today’s society. Violence and abuse toward an intimate partners is arguably the most common form of violence is society. Teenage abuse has always been prosecuted in the United States under existing assault and battery statutes. In a survey conducted in Massachusetts in 1999, one in five female high school students said that a dating partner had physically or sexually abused them and these young women elevated odds of engaging in risky behaviors. Teen Dating Violence Education Programs should be mandatory. At least fourteen states have followed the example of the Lindsay Ann Burke Act and passed laws to support the education of teen dating violence. Ann Burke argues that all students should learn about dating violence so that they can be able to protect themselves from harm and danger. Since the passage of the Lindsay Ann Burke Act, physical teen dating violence rates have decreased tremendously from 14% in 200 to 10% in 2009.

In most places, domestic violence is looked at as one of the higher priorities when trying to stop crime. Domestic violence cases are thought to be influenced by the use of alcohol, drugs, stress or anger, but in reality, they are just learned behaviors by the batterer. These habits can be stopped as long as one seeks help (Stewart & Croudep, 1998-2012). For instance, a child is brought up in a household that is constantly involved in criminal acts.

Domestic abuse and child abuse have widespread social and emotional costs. Family violence affects all segments of the family. The impact of violence on childrens' lives appears to be far more substantial than the impact on adults lives(Family, Pg. 1). In most cases of family violence the family has conformed to a pattern in which the line of family violence started generations ago. This pattern must be broken before more children growup and live in a family that resorts to violence. But there are also children who live in loving families who do not resort to violence and as these children mature they start resorting to violence to help solve and deal with their problems. Studies show that physical punishment could cause aggression in children, but other studies show that even abusive parental violence does not always lead to an increase in children's aggression. Only by recognizing and addressing the multifactorial roots of violence in our society can we move closer to living in peace.
Child abuse is one of the most serious issues in the United States today. Child abuse is the physical, emotional/ psychological or sexual maltreatment of a minor. Neglecting a child is another type of abuse, and includes malnutrition, abandonment, and/or inadequate care of a child’s safety. Additionally, any neglectful act can lead to physical or emotional harm and in some cases death of a child. Unfortunately, young children are the most vulnerable population to child abuse. Statistics indicate that victims in their first year of life had the highest rate of victimization at 21.9 per 1,000 children of the same age in the national population (United State Children’s Bureau, 2013). Additionally, the victimization was highest for children younger than one year 21.9 at per 1,000 children in the population of the same age (United State Children’s Bureau, 2013). Although, the rate of substantiated child abuse and neglect for children ages 13 months through three years old has slightly decreased from 2008 to 2012, the rate of victimization of children younger than age three continues to be of concern (United State Children’s Bureau, 2013). Moreover, 78.3 percent of victims were neglected, 18.3 percent were physically abused, and 9.3 percent were sexually abused (United State Children’s Bureau, 2013). Children’s growth and development start at a very early age. Every child develops at their own pace. Through the stages of development, people are able to see the changes in their emotional, cognitive, and physical growth. A child may grow up to be loud and very outgoing while another may grow up to be quiet and reserved. Some may have more social, emotional, and behavioral problems than others. We know every child, every person is different. Some could have inherited characteristics from their parents. Or some may have picked up these “ways” by observing. Some children may not be in the best of places growing up such as being in a family where physical abuse is present, alcohol and drugs, or family issues between parents leading to divorces. Parents being divorced or having a parent walk out in the family and never returning could negatively impact a growing child especially witnessing the leave.
