Academic Integrity
I am going to write about a topic which some people do not know in their lifetime and that topic is known as Academic Dishonesty. I am also going to write about why it is important for members of the university to understand academic dishonesty. In my paper, I am going to talk about unauthorized collaboration and how to avoid it. My paper will also include what is plagiarism and consequences and how a student can avoid plagiarism. It is going to include how a student should properly cite direct words of others and also how a student should paraphrase words and ideas of others. This paper also reflects my opinion about Academic Dishonesty.
Academic dishonesty is a broad subject. It has plagiarism, cheating on exams, unauthorized collaboration and falsifying records but these are few of them which are included in Academic Dishonesty but

A proper way for a student to paraphrase words and ideas of others is to write it in their own words and give a citation at the end of a sentence. For example, both the cultivating groups and hunter-gatherer groups had less impact on the tropical vegetation but it is not significant (Voeks, 2004, 875) (Rhoten, 2015).
I am writing this essay because I got too much help from my family for an assignment for a geography class. I took too much help from my family because of my surgery on my left cheek to remove my abscess and did not go to the writing center. Descriptions are made as to what defines plagiarism and ways to avoid plagiarism. “To plagiarize is to take work that is not your own and submit it as your own, without giving credit to the person who created it.” Some suggestions to avoid plagiarism are to keep your notes organized, and to cite whenever you use someone else’s ideas. It is also suggested to summarize, paraphrase or quote your sources. It is not considered your writing if you connect multiple quotes without adding your own ideas or thoughts. The only time you don’t have to cite is when the information you are talking about is common knowledge, or it is about your own life.

Academic Honesty requires honesty in all things, students should not participate in plagiarism, fabrication or falsification, cheating, and academic dishonestly. If a student is involved in any of these acts the student Honor Code office should be notified. There is a procedure in place for handing situation of this nature.
Academic misconduct is notion that encompasses multiple forms of academic deviance from cheating on a test and plagiarism to inappropriate collaboration. Defined as any "theft of ideas and other forms of intellectual property whether they are published or not" (Jones, et al, 2001), academic dishonesty occurs often, usually in the form of cheating or plagiarizing. Students face temptations to cheat and plagiarize throughout their academic career. Unlike past generations, the majority of modern students are taking advantage of unethical, academically dishonest opportunities. Since technology is evolving continually, students are engineering methods to apply technological innovations to cheat or plagiarize – academically cheating themselves from the education provided by the academic community.
As students of high school and college, and even in the professional world, we are asked to research and write on subjects that are seen to be important. The research that we are asked to do, has been done many times in the past, which means people are bound to use others’ ideas and words with no recognition, sometimes without even knowing it.
