I will approach this assignment by first addressing my career goal in order to put my academic goal into action. Academic Goal: My aunt once told me, ‘you can always have a “job” but it takes an education to have a true career that you enjoy.” This a quote that I thought about everyday prior to furthering my education. My overall academic goal is to simply graduate with a degree in psychology and become either a teacher or a Probation officer. I plan on accomplishing my goal by getting organized and making sure I pass all of my courses with the appropiate grades. I will do so by making appropriate times to study and complete homework. I have 3 wonderful toddler boys who are getting to the age to start school. I feel like me being overall successful in school will show them that nothing is impossible. I also believe that they will overall be more successful throughout their schooling seeing that I was. For instance, I feel like if one of my children calls and say “I don’t want to do college anymore,” without finishing myself I cannot say “No you have to stay.” My other motivation is my aunt whom passed away from Triple Negative Breast Cancer. Her only wish for me was to get a college degree; maybe even a Master’s. Everyday that I was not enrolled in college courses I thought about how she would be feeling right now. Although theses are my main motivations, I also have many more such as friends, family, and co-workers. I work currently as an aide for a Behavioral Class. The I also work at a Behavioral Hospital for children ages three to seventeen. Therefore, children who have been labeled with so many mental or behavioral disorders surround me. However, no one can give me a clear way to “ help.” I say this because most of the time I am told that their behaviors or reactions are on a person-by-person basis. This make me more and more interested to learn about mental health. Therefore, I would believe this motivation is both intrinsic and extrinsic. My next motivation is hits home and could be more of an intrinsic. My father has been diagnosed with being both Bipolar and Schizophrenic. This diagnoses is also called Schizoaffective Disorder. I never understood what was going on until I got older that he was out of control of 80%( or more) of his actions! This made me more and more interested in pursuing a career in
