*Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, by Mildred D. Taylor, shows that power doesn’t always go to those who will uses it correctly. They misuse the power they were gifted and use it for their own benefit. Examples of people who abuse their power would be the Simms, the Wallace’s, and Mr. Granger.* To begin with the majority of the Simms family don't all use their power correctly. Most of the family demands respect and trick people to do their dirty work for them. Examples of this would be when Lillian Jean and Cassie bumped to each other on the street and Lillian Jean said “You can't watch where you're going, get in the road. Maybe that way you won't be bumping into decent white folks with your nasty little self. ” to Cassie. Lillian Jeans brothers R.W and Melvin manipulate T.J. into believing they're his friends and get him to do criminal activities for them, like breaking into the Barnett store and stealing a gun. By these examples you can’t see the Simms most definitely do not use their power correctly. …show more content…

Granger is also another example of someone who abuses their power. Mr. Granger is a greedy, emotionless man that misuses his power for his own benefit. He used his power and wealth he gets one of his banker friends to cancel the Logan line of credit that gave them four more years to pay off their mortgage. Now, the total amount of the mortgage is due all in one, or else the Logans lose their land that they cherish a ton. Mr. Granger is even willing to turn a blind eye to murder. When an angry mob is about to hang T.J. near end of the novel Mr. Granger refuses to let them do it on his land but, they are allowed to do it anywhere else. Mr. Jamison makes a request to Mr. Granger to stop the mob from hurting T.J. And Mr. Granger "just stood there on his porch looking sleepy and bored" and tells the sheriff, "Hank, you take care of this. That's what folks elected you for"
