Abolishing High School Sports

Imagine getting to Buffalo Grove High school and they tell you that the sport you have been anxiously awaiting to play has been abolished. You would probably be upset, outraged, and confused. There are many instances where high school sports cause injury to players how ever, there are more pros to high school sports than cons. For example sports help improve the health of players, contribute to student athletes receiving better grades, and helps with the students social lives. Some states are thinking about abolishing these sports to ensure no one gets hurt. I can infer that people are willing to take the risk of injury because of all of the positive experiences you can gain from playing sports.

The health advantages of participating in a sport far outweigh the dangers of actual injury. Going along with this quote, there are many pieces of evidence that can prove that sports contribute to improving physical health. If sports were to be abolished the obesity rate would sky rocket. kids use sports as an outlet to stay fit and in shape. "We have an epidemic of obesity in this country, and sports is one of the best ways for kids to incorporate exercise in their lives,"( asserts Dr. R. Dawn Comstock of the Center for Injury Research and Policy.) Without sports many high schoolers wouldn’t have the push to stay healthy and stay fit. Since the quote says that sports are one of the most effective ways getting rid of obesity, why would high schools want to get rid of the athletic programs? Injuries may occur while playing a sport but by not playing and staying active you will be at a higher risk of not staying healthy and fit.
