Throughout this course, topics such as the transition from high school to college, learning skills, self-discovery, and career exploration have been discussed. Conversations occurred concerning the challenges and benefits of private and public colleges as well as the transition from high school to college. We also talked about our strengths and weaknesses while studying. Finally we talked about the jobs that we wanted, and the jobs we would be good at. During the rest of this paper, I will go into more detail about the topics we discussed; and go more in detail with what I learned. Some of my peak motivators are raises, and promotions. Also some of my values are trust, and independence in the work place. Finally some of my interest are mainly in the science field such as biology and chemistry I also found microbiology to be a very interesting field and if possible I would like to study it further. In ACA 115 when we learned about are motivators, values, and interest we were told to study them and wonder why these were what they were after studying my results I was astonished to see my motivators and values. But my interest have been the same for a very long time except for microbiology. My career choice was biochemistry and like the latter of the two my results only strengthened my resolve I now want to pursue a doctorate in biochemistry and possibly a bachelors or masters in microbiology. the reason behind this career choice is that the human body, mind, and functions interest me beyond explanation. Because I always have been interested in the how, why, or what of things and I believe that the human body is in essence the last frontier because their is still so little known about us. In ACA 115 I had an amazing chance to just sit down and go more in depth and find more information on my career that is why I find this course so helpful. it gives students the opportunity to work with a college and help prepare them for future studies and jobs. Now to get back on topic during our searches we always had to take surveys so we could best understand what job would be right for us and how it would impact are studies. some people found that they would only have to go to college for two years and some for four to six years depending on the level of degree they wanted to achieve. I found this to be a great help in finding my career. because before I took ACA 115 I wasn’t sure what i wanted to be but I knew my interest lay within the science and medical field.
Robert Leamnson’s essay “Learning (Your First Job)” effectively proposes the importance of learning by suggesting ways of making notes, studying, and doing assignments. Leamnson cannot stress it enough, how learning will not be accomplished unless you want to do it. If you do not have the want of learning then there is no point in doing it. High school education is so much different than your post-secondary education. The material that is being learned in the college classes is materials that will be useful for your later career. This essay has given me a better understanding of to how and why I should take college classes
One major decision one must make after exiting high school is whether to go to a university or go to community college. In the article “Two Year Are Better Than Four,” written by Liz Addison. She expressed her opinion on the significance of community colleges in comparison with the university. She stated that community college do not receive the acknowledgment and appreciation that they deserve. “what’s the matter with colleges?,” (Addison 255).
Over the past few years, people have begun to see going to college as a way to achieve the American Dream through career-readiness. The people of the United States have been suffering from a number of serious issues, all related to health care: millions go uninsured every year, health care is too expensive, and the quality of care is poor, especially for the price. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, commonly referred to as the Affordable Care Act (ACA) or Obama Care, began addressing these issues. The ACA is a United States federal statute signed into law by President Barack Obama on March 23, 2010. The law was enacted with the goals of increasing the quality and affordability of health insurance, lowering the uninsured rate by expanding public and private insurance coverage, and reducing the costs of healthcare for individuals and the government. Although several of the act’s promises have not come into effect yet, it has managed to extend healthcare to the repetitively uninsured. While many of the accomplishments that the act has already made, and aims to make, are no small feat, there are still issues within the policies and procedures. For example, Obama Care boasts that it is a universal healthcare system. However, it is unlike any other in the world, and is technically forced on citizens in a variety of ways. It has been debated, that for that reason, the new law may come into violation of several human rights. Another significant issue with the ACA regards a cap on citizen’s out-of-pocket expenses, and the fact that the administration decided to delay making a definitive decision, potentially costing many American’s unprecedented medical fees.
I believe that challenging myself to take AP classes that influence my decision in choosing a career path will be beneficial and aide me in achieving my lifetime goal of helping others. I have often wondered what it would be like to experience the freedom of choosing my own class schedule. This has to be infinitely more stimulating and enjoyable. I am also aware that college will be significantly more challenging, but I have always found it easier to study for a class that interests me. I am willing to accept the fact that as long as I am in school, there will be required courses which may not engender excitement or enthusiasm; however, success should not be as difficult to achieve due to the maturity that is developing during this last year of high school. In addition, I have gained an understanding of the benefit of being well rounded. There is value in all classes taken. It helps to know that even my least favorite subject will contribute to the ultimate goal of personal and career development.
First of all, many high school graduates cannot handle college. Isabel V. Sawhill and Stephanie Owen describe college as a place, “one can obtain a traditional four-year bachelor’s degree”. The work load outside of the classroom could be compared to working a full time job. For example, if a student is enrolled in four college courses and is in class a minimum of four hours the student should spend at least four to six hours of studying. This may be extremely agitating and stressful to a student that is not good at studying. The new college student may realize that the schoolwork is too much for him to handle and instead drop out. In Pharinet’s blog post, Is College for Everyone? He states that “…it is estimated that in the U.S., approximately 50% of students who begin college never graduate. There exist students who are not yet ready for the academic and financial challenges of college. I enjoy being a college student more than being a high school student. In the time that I have been in college, I have seen that more freedom is allowed to students in college than in high school. Such choices as the note taking, the environment, or class selection are a few examples of how college is less restrictive than high school. Because of the educational freedom and having more control over my education, I find being a college student more enjoyable than being a high school student.
College success has become a most desirable goal. However, many students struggle through college. In fact, according to the Website Ask.com, approximately 15 percent of college students receive a degree. Because I’m willing to earn a degree like many other successful students, I find that college is the stepping stone to my dream goals. I know that college is difficult, but I realize that attaining my dream of a college education will require me to understand the benefits of what I’m learning, to prepare for obstacles, to seek advice, and to create effective and reasonable strategies will help me achieve my goals.
My High School life has helped shape the way for my college experiences that I will face. My senior year in high school is not the same as many other high school students. I am taking many advanced classes to help me prepare for college. These classes help me better understand exactly how much harder I must work to succeed.
School plays an important role in our lives. Many people will spend more than fifteen years at school in order to get the qualifications that are required to work in a specific field. Those years are broken down into several levels, some of them being more enjoyable than others. Two very important levels that people go through are high school and college. Even though some think that these levels are almost the same, there are significant differences between them. The cost of high school is not the same as the cost of college. Also, some differences apply from an academic point of view. Typically, the social environment also differs from high school to college, which can be related to the question of freedom versus responsibility.
Another area that high school and college contrast in is my attentiveness during classes. In high school, the instructors were strict about different classroom policies, mainly the cell phone one. It was prohibited for students to have phones in class due to all the distractions it may cause. I would text in class and drift from the lesson. In College, even though it’s more laid back it requires more attentiveness. I try not to text from time to time. I understand now that this may take part in the down fall of my grades. Eventually, being more attentive during class, and remaining consist with the “study time” days will help improve my grades for the most part.
Schooling is a very important aspect in our lives and one must go through many steps to gain a higher education. Two of these steps are high school and college. Although high school and college students aim for the same goal, which is acquiring an education and graduating, the demands, expectations, and social atmosphere extremely contrast.
The grand transition from high school to college is something like childhood to adulthood. Some things that one has experienced in high school will be the same in college, just a little more intense. For example, the classroom settings, coursework, associates, social life and grading scales may be a little more difficult for one to become immune to in the beginning. One should begin to prepare for the college life in their last high school days. The exceedingly life-changing progression of one’s life from high school to college life presents several major changes, yet preserves a slight comfort of immune of high school.
