Demolition Derby
The word demolition means collisions and hitting two objects together while derby mean a race. These two words put together creates a competitive place for people to enjoy derby cars. Demolition derby drivers come from long family history of drivers. The pasion starts when they are old enough to walk, helping dad at the garage. He can remember their first demolition derby going forty miles per hour, smashing into another car and coming in third. From that moment on, he was hooked. From my experience and research, I know there is a lot of time and effort that goes into building the car, participating in the demo derby, and keeping a driver and spectators safe and these are the three areas of focus on in this paper.
The first area that is important to understand when entering demo derby is the general rules. Rules for the participants have to be followed in order to participate in the demo. These rules help to keep the playing field even. These rules can change depending on the promoter that is in charge. The promoter has the full authority to allow participants to race or to tell them that their vehicle is too over built. The participant then must put it back on the trailer and cannot participate in the derby. An example of these rules entering the right vehicle into the right class. A typical night at the derby would have five different derby classes a night. The class are determined by wheel base. A truck cannot be entered in a derby classification against a van because a truck has better motor, stronger body frame and would completely destroy the van. In an impact like this, the driver of the van could possibly be hurt.

...need to know. The most important is the general rules of the demolition derby. These rules tell a participant how to build their car and the requirements of the car. Rules are important when building a demolition derby car to keep the driver safe and prevent injuries like a broken nose or wrist. A broken wrist can happen by not letting go of the steering wheel when getting hit in the wheel, the steering wheel can jerk around and break a participants wrist. It is possible to break your nose by hitting someone or another participant hitting you so hard that you smash your nose on the steering wheel and break your nose. Demolition derby and regulations can make the sport fun and safe. The motto I live by when doing demolition derby's is ''Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.” by Dr. Suess. This helps me remember if I win or lose, I had fun doing it.
	The story starts of while they are playing their first baseball game of the season against the Crazy Horse Electrics. They decide to put beer in the opposition team's water bottles as a prank, so that they could win. After that Willie decides to go fishing with his dad. They have deep conversations, and they start talking about why Willie's mom does not fish like she used too. Then they get into talking about Missy, Willie's little sister who died of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). After that the book cuts into another baseball game, they are playing against the Crazy Horse Electrics. Sal, a big guy on the Crazy Horse, and Johnny get into a verbal argument, and then Johnny says something personal about him and he wound up and decked Johnny one. They break it up and continue the game. When Willie was about to pitch he looses his balance and Sal hits a good pitch. Then out of pure luck and talent, Willie stretches himself out and robs Sal of a sure triple. Willie becomes a minor legend.
The character of Speedway as a place is temporal and spatial; the street of Friday midnight is radically different from the street of Tuesday morning. Daytime drivers quickly change lanes in an attempt to find the one which will deliver them to their destinations the fastest. Speed and efficacy define the daytime Speedway. As the type of driver changes, so does the driver's reason for being there. The weekday commute is replaced by the weeknight cruise. The drivers also become, as a group, less diverse in terms of age and gender. The majority of cruisers appeared to be teenagers. Also, though I saw many young women, the majority of cruisers were male.

The speedways are mostly always located in city areas where a large amount of people live. After a weekend of racing the teams head to the shop to fix the car up again. Despite the fact, that racing had been around since before 1978; whenever Mr. Robert Smawley introduced NDRA, and later Mr. Bill France introduced NASCAR, more people paid attention to the sport of racing.
Ask any ten enthusiasts what two cars epitomize the concept of an automotive rivalry and at least nine of them will instantly conclude the Chevrolet or Chevy Camaro and the Ford Mustang, two cars that make up part of a small automotive segment known as Pony Cars. These fire-breathing leviathans of the street snarl with guttural reverberations boastfully announcing their presence with the mere turn of key. For nearly five decades, these mechanical beasts have captured the imagination of the American driver and ignited the most contentious debate in automotive history: Which car reigns supreme? Muscle car buffs waste no time quoting sales figures, vehicle performance, track times, or even mundane statistics like vehicle dimensions or available colors to simply justify their support for one model over the other. A Modest Proposal For Making Driving More Entertaining, While Creating The Same Risks For Everyone On The Road
People who have participated in racing for the past century, have never been universally accepted as athletes. The drivers, especially those in the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) prove this misconception as incorrect with their intense training and stellar performances. Drivers on social media, assert that they are athletes, contradicting other sports stars who insist that they are not. The drivers in NASCAR and all forms of racing deserve to be given the respect of their fellow athletes in other sports. NASCAR drivers are seasoned athletes because of their training and tough race conditions that they encounter every week on the track.
Some say that automotive racing began when the second car was built. For over a hundred years, competition has driven innovation in the car industry, thus the industry maxim “Win on Sunday, sell on Monday.” NASCAR and drag racing contributed greatly to muscle cars’ success. Muscle cars were born from these competitions as factory made race cars. Because of this, the muscle car quickly moved from a low quantity specialty item to the image of the American automotive scene. Each brand had to have one and each one needed better performance and personality than the next. The Golden Age began in the 1960s with the introduction of more performance models such as the Chevy SS Impala and the Ford Galaxy Starliner (Auto Editors).
There are many differences and similarities between Graham Greene’s “The Destructors” and D.H. Lawrence’s “Rocking Horse Winner.” One general difference is that in “The Destructors” the setting is in Great Britain, after the bombing had happened during World War 1, when the buildings were destroyed. The setting of “Rocking Horse Winner” is a suburban community located on the outskirts of Baltimore, Maryland. This one distinct difference affects the entire background of each story. The setting of “The Destructors” brings mood and feeling into the story were ass the setting of “Rocking Horse Winner” is just a general setting which could be changed and would not have a significant affect on the story as a whole. One general similarity between the two stories is that they both have a young boy as the main character, but the use of this character is very different in each story. The boy in “Rocking Horse Winner” is more innocent and unknowing of the evil the world can hold, he also hasn’t reached the rebellion stage of adolescence. In the other story “The Destructors” you have “T” who comes from a high class English family but is forced into poverty by the war, but he has already begun his rebellion against what is “good.” The similarities and differences between money, class, and family values in the stories are much more significant because they have more affect on each story and on the reader.
First, the rules that are enforced are a great way of making the game safe for the players. There are rules like, not being allowed to tackle certain ways. For example, if you tackle someone from the back by pulling them, then that is said to be an illegal tackle. It is also said that it is illegal for someone to pull on others facemask when tackling. There are many others rules that are enforced in the game. Another one is the rule that says, Head to Head is not allowed. What that basically is that you cannot tackle someone by contacting your helmet to the opposing player. It’s May 5, 2012. It’s a Saturday night after a stressful week of school. It’s an ordinary spring day. We had been at Truman Lake on the water all day, looking forward to a great night of racing. The sun rose up, the heat was reaching the upper nineties, and conditions were beautiful for a night filled with racing. My uncle had box tickets to the Impact Night at Wheatland Speedway. My mom, dad, brother, and three of our family friends all piled into our seven passenger SUV to head down to Wheatland, MO. Little did we know what was in store. The races started off intense and every race had at least one wreck. After a long day, we were driving home. Exhausted, I had just dozed off on my mom’s shoulder when out of nowhere on Highway 83, we swerved off the road to avoid getting hit head-on by a drunk driver. Sliding every which way through the ditch, we hit a school bus sign; only feet away from guard rail. Thanks to my dad’s retired dirt track racing skills and someone watching over us, everyone in that car is alive today.

Do people like having a turtle as a pet? I do. Turtles are not that hard to take care of if people have the right equipment. Many factors come in as the turtles environment changes from their natural environment to being in a human home environment. Turtles are ancient animals that have evolved. “From man’s viewpoint turtles are slow, harmless creatures, and in this characterization they have an important role in mythology and folklore” (Carl H. Ernest and Roger W. Barbour, 1). Many people seem to think that turtles are just another animal that are easy to care for, but that is not always true; a lot of factors come into play when taking care of turtles, and the things people discover while taking care of a turtle is very interesting.
My teammates were already waiting at the end of the drag strip. Unable to restart my car, we pushed it back to our pit area. My hopes were crushed. as I went over the fact that my day of racing was already over. & nbsp; Drag racing is a big part of my life. All of my spare time is spent working on my 1996 Honda Accord. With a big import drag racing. approaching quickly, I spent most of my waking hours for a week tuning my car. Sweat and hours of hard work finally prepared my car for racing. The interior was stripped down to the sheet metal and contained only the driver's seat to reduce weight. The whole exhaust system was removed to gain that little edge of power, which is essential for racing.
