A Scream in the Night.
Chapter 1
Ahhhhhhhh…… I jumped out of my bed and turned on the night. I slowly creaped over to my bedroom window, what I saw was petrifying. A humongous light came bursting in at me I was sure that it wasn’t the sun. It came closer each second, closer, closer and closer, bigger, bigger and bigger. But before I got to faint, Mum got up and the light dissapeared. Weird.
Chapter 2
I put on my warm and cosy dressingown, slipped my foot into my bright and yellow slippers, and crept down the creaky stairs for breakfast, trying to act normal. When I got there I said,
“ Morning Mum, Morning Dad.”
“ Morning,” Replied Mum and Dad.
I sat down and said nothing, Still wondering what weird thing could happened this morning.
Chapter 3
I sat there thinking what could have happened?, what could it be?, how could it be? Mum noticed me being quiet, she asked, “ Dear what is the matter? You look awfully pale.”
At first I wasn’t listening, then she asked again,
“ Oh, Oh nothing mother”, trying to keep it to myself.
“ Look what ever it is you can tell me you know I wont bite! She explained.
“ Look mother, I’m ok, just abit tired that’s all.” I roared. I knew it wasn’t ok though. Just maybe I’ll tell her one day, but just maybe.
Chapter 4
When I went to bed, I woke up again at midnight, I turned on my light, but when I turned around……. Ahhhhhhhh…. Cried a voice coming from outside. I went to the window and looked in the sky, there was a man he was very red and looked half alive and half dead. Then he said nothing else, and just layed there, then he dissapeared. I ran into mums room and said “ Mum, Mum wake up,”
Mum said “ Yes dear,”she mumbled.

I was lying in my bed and I looked over at my closet doors, which had sliding mirrors, and I saw myself. I looked like I had died. My face was pale, my eyes were black, and I was unusually skinny.
Many people spend their whole lives trying to make money and become rich. One imagines a lifestyle where they do not have to work to provide for their families and they can enjoy the finer things in life. Some may go to great lengths to find this source of richness, even if this involves packing up and moving far away. Many people found a way to make this dream of being rich a reality on January 24, 1848. While constructing a sawmill for John Sutter, James W. Marshall discovered gold in the American River. Many people flocked to California in search of the golden treasure and to follow their dream. This was the start of the California Gold Rush. The California Gold Rush was an important part of the history of the United States; it helped to settle the western United States, increased the economy of California, and negatively impacted the Native Americans living in the west.
The Night Characters:.. Moshe the Beadle— was one of the first of the Jews to be taken away that Elie knew closely. Moshe then escaped the massive ditches of death and was able to return to Sighet to tell them of what the Germans were doing. In 1880, one of the largest gold rushes was started. John Muir was one of few men who began the series of Alaskan Gold Rushes, and made Alaska what it is well known for, the last frontier. John Muir was on a canoe trip through the inside passage in 1879, and he had predicted there would be large amounts of gold in Juneau, Alaska's capitol in present day America. In 1886, John Muir, along with two other men, stopped to have lunch by Rabbit Creek, and saw a sight that was to set the world on fire with gold fever.

The news did spread, and with the news began the California Gold Rush. The California Star newspaper was the first to report on the discovery of gold in the Sacramento valley of California. Of course, California was the place to know, but the news of the gold discovery took a long time to spread. This delay was due to two reasons; the discovery of gold excited the Californians so much that everyone just up and left what they were doing; ships were abandoned, bustling towns became ghost towns, and homes were left behind completely untouched. Nearly the whole population had gone to the mines. “The whole country from San Francisco to Los Angeles, and from the seashore to the base of the Sierra Nevada, resounds to the sordid cry of gold! The California Gold Rush is a big part of California’s history and is taught to 4th graders. As a future teacher, it is important to understand why and how topics like this one can help benefit our students. Settlers like John Sutter came from other countries to find a place on the expanding west coast, but in the early harsh terrain of California it didn’t come easy. A gold rush is defined as a rapid influx of fortune seekers rushing to the site of a newly discovered gold deposit (pocket of land). While there were many gold rushes in the 19th century the one that is being focused on happened in California in 1848. In 1848, James Marshall an employee of John Sutter at the time was testing the Sutter’s mill as usual. However, this time James noticed something different about the water running over gravel and sand. There seemed to be something sparkling in the sand, when he went to investigate he picked up some small yellow beads/flakes of metal. Those flakes of metal, turned out to be gold. Both James and John were left without any fortune from their discovery. A San Francisco businessman, known as, Sam Brannan was responsible for spreading the announcement of the gold located at Sutter's Mill, mainly because he ran down the streets of the small towns in California announcing the two men's discoveries. After the news quickly began to spread, travelers invaded Sutter's Mill and overran his region. Miners primed up tents outside of the primal mining camps, which were ambient to where they were hunting for gold. In the first ten years of the Gold Rush, more than five-hundred mining camps were launched. Sometimes these camps would quickly develop into towns known as “boomtowns”. Thousands upon thousands of men showed up from all over the world to strike it rich. In august of 1849 some two hundred ships clogged the waterways due to men abandoning them. This led to California creating a trade network linking the pacific coastlines. This opening up the market for new trades. That of cereal from Chile, Mexican coffee and cocoa, potatoes from Australia, and even sugar and rice from china. It was a more even trade because everyone involved had a singular mission, find gold.
