This reflection document will touch on three very important topics regarding education and transformative learning, as follows, the context of the experience of transformation, learning circles and feedback systems and finally systems perspectives. The following article will show my understanding of the material and my learning as a whole.
While learning the material, one very important question appears in my mind, who is a real teacher and what does it mean. To my understanding, being a teacher means having great knowledge, wisdom, and authority. Theoretically, it is a person, who is willing to dedicate his/her life to the establishment of an educational community. It must be admitted that, there are not only the standards-based teachers but also incredibly giving educators, who create open environments where students can deepen their inquiries, where child’s intellectual, emotional, social and moral potentials are carefully cultivated and guided. More specifically, the role and the mission of the real teacher are to positively inspire the students. Personally I have never thought that the greatest teacher is the one who can become the real student, in other words - transformative. I guess this is the window into becoming a real teacher. As a teacher, my impact can be measured in the transformation of my students as they transform and redefine me. My own observations reveal that real teachers see what is good and worthwhile in their students, hear their students. I’ve learnt that transformative learning helps me to be authentic, individuated and critically reflective practitioner. I wonder how useful and helpful they are. I discover that circle sessions are the most fun and become great motivator for my students. From a practical perspective, circle session promotes asking and listening, demonstrates an important element of respect. At first I needed some time to establish familiarity with the circle framework in order my students begin to engage in the circle sessions, but a while later they realized how enjoyable circles can be. Once I tried this circle session and now I am using it every week. I have noticed that some students take it with great enthusiasm. They create their own games or bring in new ideas from home. We use stories, pictures and video clips, which enable them to discuss emotions and difficult issues. In my opinion, the purpose of the circle session is to support each other in the process of learning. It is important to say that in the process both students and teachers are involved. In general, circle sessions are great choice for the teachers. I have noticed the positive feelings and reflections from my students, which is much more important part of teaching. Everyone interacts with each other and arouses interests of everyone. It is an incredible thing for me that some time passed and students have learnt to avoid put-downs and learn to listen each other.
