Play vs Movie Lorraine Hansberry and Kenny Leon’s drama play/movie is about the Youngers, a African-American family that lives in the Southside of Chicago during the 1950s. The Younger family is awaiting a life insurance check, on behalf of Mama’s husband as well as Walter Lee and Beneatha’s father Walter Sr, worth ten thousand dollars. After waiting the family finally receives the check and with that Walter Lee wants to invest in a liquor store. With that check Mama put a down payment on a house in Clybourne Park. After words Mama give Walter the remaining $6,500 to split between himself and his sister Beneatha. Walter though goes behind his families back and gives the money to Bobo and Willie Harris to go invest in the liquor store. An unfortunate turn of events happens though as Bobo breaks the news to Walter that Willie Harris had gone off with the money. In the end the Younger family moves into their new house after Walter man's up and tells Mr. Lindner that they will move in. With all of the similarities and differences between the play and the movie teachers should read the play as well as watch the movie. …show more content…

The main characters during the play and movie include the Younger family as well as Mr. Lindner. If some of those characters were not in the movie it would make major differences within the plot between the play and movie. While reading the play unrehearsed you can't see how the character look as well as how their emotions flow during a scene that's why the scene similarities is another good reason why teachers should read the play and watch the movie in their classes.
