“A Plate of Peas,” a short story by Rick Beyer, is about how an eight-year-old boy, who’s hate’s peas ends up eating them everytime they are served, because of his grandmother’s offer and his mother’s statement. The boy first eight peas when he, his mother and his grandmother all decided to go to the Biltmore Hotel. When they all got there the boy ordered a Salisbury steak, with the steak came with a plate of peas. The grandmother asked the boy to eat his peas, but the mother interfered and told the grandmother he dislikes the peas. Then a grin appeared on the grandmother’s face, she said: “I’ll pay you five dollars if you eat those peas.” For the boy, five dollars was an “ENORMOUS nearly UNIMAGINABLE amount of money, and as awful as peas were,
