Have you ever thought about how much politics are involved in our lives? Or have you ever thought about how much we look up to public figures? Public figures influence on our lives greatly, and they are now being told that they should not have the right protest standing during the national anthem because the national anthem represents the power and conquest of our country. I believe that not standing for the national anthem is disrespectful not only to our country, but to the men defending our country. In the article “ A Leader Is More Than A Messenger” Toni Smith starts out her article by stating how politics are involved in every aspect of our lives, even during sporting events because they are conducted as extravaganzas.Smith uses examples such as, “There is room for all of these elements during athletic events: sex, alcohol, violence, religion (how many players thank God after a good game?) and any other aspect of life that advertisements include. Yet, suddenly, we have no room for politics in sports? This is sadly naive.” This quote talks about all the things involved in sporting events, including politics. Not standing for the national anthem is very rude, disrespectful to our country, and to the people that are risking their lives to protect the United States. Even if they are a different race I believe they should still stand for the national anthem because they are currently living in this country, and they are being protected by our country. I believe that when people sit during the national anthem that they are not thinking about the men overseas fighting for our freedom. Protesting the national anthem has nothing to do with the race issue in the United States because even if you are a different race you are a still a citizen of the United
